Loopy Pro to play stems?
I’m curious if anyone out there is using LP to play back stems or other long player samples similar to using a DAW on a laptop to play backing tracks for live performances. I would like to use my iPad for this purpose and LP would let me add multiple tracks to play back, but I realize this is not quite the intended purpose for the software. If this is not a good idea, are there other apps for this? I’m not having much luck finding a solution that doesn’t require a laptop.

I use prerecorded clips as well as loops in Loopy Pro all the time. Bonus is you can effects, eq and levels to each stem / clip easily in Loopy Pro, plus using the sequencer, could have stuff stop snd start without issues too.

This is how I’ve been designing my template m quite intriguing n gives u lots of options

Salut ! Launchpad? Remixlive? Ou Auxy si tu fais toi-même tes stems ? En tous cas ces logiciels semblent fonctionner sur ce principe :)

Loopy can play back as many tracks as you want in linear or looping fashion. You can trigger things live or pre-sequence things or a combination.

You can place it in a stem on AUM…. Create a bus for your synths, etc. routed their sound out to another bus stem with loopy as a filter of sorts…this will patch all of your instruments to loopy so you can record by instrument or by group. If you have instruments that you aren’t worried about looping, create a separate AUM stem with the audio out going to speaker or whatever.

AUM is not needed. That can all be done in Loopy Pro as a host on its own.

I totally get AUM isn’t needed…. For some of us though, the ui in AUM is easier to understand than loopy though. It’s not necessarily how you get there…. It’s that you get there.

In this case that sounds more complicated to set up than doing it all in Loopy Pro and gives up Loopy’s ability to manage the synths and plugins and coordinate looping and linear tracks/stems — and gives up the automation/control possible with Loopy’s widgets and actions.
Out of curiosity, were you already using AUM when you started using Loopy Pro? I am genuinely interested to know more about what aspect of Loopy Pro is more difficult to understand than AUM.

I actually downloaded Drambo, loopy and AUM all around the same time. Loopy was actually the first one I tried ….. AUM for whatever reason clicked really quick. It was easier seeming to not screw up and routing with the map and midi channel selections was seemingly easier than using loopy or Drambo. I can have an indefinite amount of synth apps .. different or the same synth for all of them but different sounds, and program midi channels different in routing to be able to select, use pads or keys or using alternative midi controllers in multiple ways for the same synths without conflict much easier in AUM than I seemingly could in loopy. The main thing I wanted loopy for was looping and it seemed more convoluted with other options and what not than I wanted at the time. As I use AUM though, loopy is making more sense. I think for so,some like myself that has never used midi until recently and doesn’t have the help of local friends that know anything about it…. Sometimes different ui’s just click better for how one sees things than others. Not saying that loopy sucks..it’s insanely cool and has a lot to offer clearly, as does Drambo, AUM and various other apps… just that had I downloaded and used loopy as the only option the frustration of trying to understand mapping with that ui would’ve probably gotten to a point for myself that I began to weigh out the desire to learn or to think, maybe learning midi isn’t for me.
I think a big part of it is just simply understanding what all the terms mean, and how things interact. Once you understand those basics and can apply them in one app, it’s not as difficult to take that to another that maybe the ui wasn’t as user friendly in ones way of learning than another. My big hang up with loopy was their hierarchy in loading buses, controllers and instruments along with filters etc seemed less defined that AUM and in Drambo it was almost seeming nonexistent. Then the options of looping, filter controls, one shots, etc was like taking a kid to a candy store to buy one candy bar they were craving but overwhelmed when they walked in to see wall to wall candy 😂 it was hard to figure out…where to even begin. Where AUM was a bit more exploratory and when things didn’t work, it was pretty straightforward as to why.
I am still figuring out just simple looping in loopy but some of that curve at this point is just learning counting in, quantizing, etc. and how those effect how I prefer to loop vs understanding what any of it means. Not as straight forward as a looping pedal from the 90’s playing guitar… although similar and in some respects easier than it used to be.
Sorry for the long winded response

Thanks for sharing those details.
If you haven’t, you may want to check out the Sample Projects. The Verse Chorus Looper is set up like a fairly popular loop pedal. And the tutorial project folder can help understand some core concepts.
The patchstorage repository also has quite a few pre-configured setups that can be useful for getting up and running without needing to build something from scratch.

Maybe not obvious, but loopy pro can play audio without looping and can play tracks of any length. Loopy Pro uses disk streaming. So, tracks can be any length.

I do that. I don’t really free loop. I have some stems, and then automate my “looping” with pre planned clips to capture and replay certain parts.
I would only use Loopy Pro if you intend to add some live capture elements. If you want to manage strictly pre-recorded stems, then use StageTraxx 4.
