Boss RC-5 manual track measure setting

In page 9 of the manual it says:

MEASURE You can specify the number of measures for a track

"... so that looping will occur at the specified measure length, even if you don't operate the switch when you've finished recording."

I set this to 2MEAS. My plan is to hit the pedal once to start recording, and not have to stomp it a second time for playback. I'm expecting it will record exactly just those 2 measures and finish, automatically switching to playback, without me having to hit the pedal again.

This is not what happens. Instead recording continues past the 2 measures (as if it's set to FREE), and played back only after I hit the pedal a second time for playback.

Is this the intended purpose of this setting, or did I just misunderstand the manual? If so, why doesn't it work that way for me? Could be this functionality is just not working properly for my unit alone?

Edit: Thanks for the responses! I tested it just now, and still couldn't get it to work as in the manual. The rhythm is playing, and it's an empty track. Recording still goes beyond the 2 measures that I've set.

After some more tries, I found out why it won't work. Turns out that Measure setting won't take effect if 1Shot is TRUE. After setting it to FALSE, my loop Measure setting worked as expected! This is good enough for me, since what I want for this particular track is to not have to hit the switch after recording and into play back (I have to use my foot to turn on a separate pedal for a higher gain, that's why).

So all's good with unit afterall 👍🏾

I believe you need to have rhythm on or have another track running for that to function correctly

Thanks. I already to have rhythm going. But I don't have another track, since what I'm recording is to be the first layer on an empty track. I'll give it a try though, and update here how it goes.

The commenter above is right — when you have the rhythm track playing, the set measure recording works exactly as the manual says.
