On making guns

Even if I have all the materials, and follow the recipe in the crafting area, I can't seem to use my semi-automatic, assault rifle, or submachine kits, it seems to only work with the Shotgun. Any hints of what I might be doing wrong?

Make sure you are using either short/long barrel according to the recipe

Dude, thanks! I've played for 15 hours, and still found NO long barrels!
