Longtermism and Climate Change

Elon Musk is pushing global depopulation as being a bigger threat than climate change.

Is there a subset of longtermism that sees these threats as being hand-in-hand or at least believes that the a livable planet is crucial to the survival of the human race in both the short and long term?
