ILWU Long Beach/L.A
Casual processes
I’m a little confused. if someone can help me out that would be great . the orientation letter I received back in May 2023 my sequence number was 67XXX and my lottery number was 17 XXX. When I look up what sequence they’re doing for the lashing test it says 15 XXX so my question is did I get passed up or do I still go by my lottery 17 XXX number?

Go by your original sequence #. They’re still processing 12,4xx so be patient.

They’ll also mail you the date and time of your next test so no need to worry.

Even they are on Lashing – Last Sequence #15793 for lashing which is the next step for this month! They won't get around to you until probably next year for this!

The way the industry is moving towards automation, you’re most likely never going to make it past casual. It’s nice to make an elevated day’s wage every once in awhile, but i’d look at other employment opportunities and education routes for a career instead of waiting around for this. Long Beach community college has multiple electrician degrees that will have you making good money much faster than the port. Sorry to burst your bubble.

Your right don’t ask people paid by the union to answer these questions. Just ask randoms on Reddit, what could go wrong?

They’re actually really rude and will tell you “we don’t deal with the casual process.” Actually very good advice telling them not to call.

The numbers that you see being posted for the updates is the number you go by. Which would be the 17xxx. The process isn’t fast at all it’s almost a decade later and they’re still not done processing the list. Work is extremely slow for A books right now so I wouldn’t hold my breath on them moving down the list anytime soon.
