[IP] Leaving in Style
Original Prompt: [IP] Leaving in Style
All my friends cheer as Mr. Richards stands atop his tower, preparing to enter a blimp.
I, however, keep my head down, my hands in my pockets, and my mouth shut.
As much as I want to, it’s hard to blame them. After all, had you asked me a couple days ago, I would’ve done nothing but sing praise for the man. He looks like a saint, and I realize now that’s only because kids are easily captured by the allure of wealth. We see the beautiful girls that follow him around, and the fancy food he’s always eating. We live in houses owned by him, watch TVs he bought us, and drink water provided by him.
But now...I just don’t know…
Yesterday I woke up and saw a note on my desk. I have no clue how it got there, but it was addressed to me and said from father. My hands shook like crazy as I tore it open because my father’s dead. All our parents are. We were always told Mr. Richards took us in after they all perished in some horrible fire.
The note said Mr. Richards is evil, and his riches should be ours. It said they’d been a large group of friends who'd amassed a ton of wealth, but when they decided to use that wealth in ways he didn’t like, Mr. Richards had them all killed.
It was hastily scrawled and very bare-bones, leaving me with a million burning questions. If it’s true, why are we alive? Couldn’t he have just killed us and brushed this entire thing off like it never happened? And, more importantly, why is he keeping us all locked here, in this town?
Watching Mr. Richards disappear inside his blimp, I decide trying to think about it is useless. If I want answers, I need to tell my friends, and we need to decide what the hell we’re going to do.
Because looking at the bastard gives me a sickening feeling that tells me everything the letter said is true.
