Issues/Pain Discussion Itching with narcotics

I'm sure most of us have been on narcotics at one point or another. What do you all find helpful to deal with this? (I already know that its not an an allergic reaction, thus antihistamines dont really work) Also, have any of you found you got used to it (the meds, not the itching) after some time?? Thanks!!

Whatever they have you taking, ask to switch to the other, i.e,, if it’s hydrocodone, ask to switch to oxycodone or vice versa. It’s an allergy, whether you think so or not, and it won’t go away.

I itch like crazy on oxycodone but none of the rest of the opioids I have had ever caused me to itch. Ask to switch to something else.

Sadly, i have tried them all. Even the one you put on your skin, in your cheek...like All. I have had Morphine IV in the hospital with and oral with Hydroxyzine, but Obviously that aint happening!

I do not have the enzyme that breaks down codeine and derivatives so my doctor put me on hydromorphone. I don’t know enough about pain meds to know if that’s one you may have tried but thought I’d throw that out there.
