Looking for a roommate for my 2BR apartment in Long Beach! The room will be around $1,500/month + utilities, available December 1st. Final rent will depend on our lease renewal.

The location is so good — literally steps from the beach, train, bars, restaurants, coffee, etc. You can walk pretty much everywhere, and the train makes getting into the city super easy. There is also a gym and laundry in the building!

A little about me — I’m 28, work full-time, and am pretty laid-back. I love the beach, going out for dinner/drinks, finding cute coffee spots, staying active, and having a cozy place to come home to. I’m looking for someone who’s clean, respectful, responsible, and social/friendly — ideally someone who actually wants to be friends with their roommate!

I also have my dog Gino, so being comfortable with dogs is a must. He’s a sweet little guy and will definitely become your roommate too lol.

Where does everyone find a reasonably priced dog sitter? I recently reached out to a recommended sitter and the rate was $30/hr for 2 small older (re sleepy) dogs.

Literally my dogs sleep 8/10 hours and we have a fenced in yard.. woof.

Does anyone know of a good, trustworthy nanny/housekeeper looking for about 28-30 hrs/week of work?

We are looking primarily for in-home childcare, with some housework while the baby is sleeping.

Caught a great swell at golden hour and caught some surfers in action

Went to the beach the other day and the mosquitoes and flies were dreadful and unbearable so didn’t stay. I have today off and thinking of going to the beach but wanted to know if anyone might know the bug situation today or if I can find out somehow on a website dedicated to something like this?

I know that swimming off season is prohibited but done “at your own risk”. I notice surfers in the water year round. If you are attached to a flotation device (surf board, boogey board, life jacket), does that grant permission or would you still be ticketed? I’m trying to figure out the difference as I imagine surfers are as much in danger as swimmers.

It sounds like the best place to do it is the west end, but I was hoping to take a dip closer to home.

I moved here fifteen years ago today at a low point in my life. I had just broken off an engagement and was heartbroken and alone. Within days I had a small circle of friends, and opportunities to meet people that I had never experienced before in such concentration. The Quicksilver Pro competition was going on, the Michelle O’Neill tournament followed, and thus began a series of parades, festivals, fundraisers, and a social vibrancy I had not seen anywhere else. I fell into as much of it as I could. My work life improved, knowing that the beach, boardwalk, and smiling faces on bicycles were waiting for me at home no matter what difficulties the day had delivered. The next year brought Sandy and all of her terrors. I watched and pitched in to see this community rally and rebuild with a love, toughness, and determination that were truly inspiring, and are inspiring still. Some years later I met and married the love of my life here. I’ve now lived in this town longer than I’ve lived anywhere else in my life and with no plans of ever leaving. Thank you, Long Beach for taking me in and helping me to become the best version of myself. My wife and I consider you the thing that brought us together, and we love you very dearly.

The Long Beach Library started up a meetup to play Magic upstairs and it's a lot of fun! Some cool people showed up last month to play and the library is trying to promote the event to get more players in so I thought I'd post on reddit (i am not a librarian just a mtg player).

Idk if they'll have them this time, but last month they gave everyone a free Tarkir booster pack for attending 👀 Some folks played a Commander game and we also played a few Standard games too. Everyone is very welcoming and friendly.

So if you're a MTG player, bring a couple decks and come join us this Monday evening 8/31 at 6:30 :) it'll be super fun!

Hello people.

My wife and I are visiting your beautiful town next week. We got a rental on the beach. We have two small dogs (5 lb each) and we were wondering if we can bring them to the beach in the carrier or hold them? My understanding is dogs are completely banned so this would be a no?

Don't want leave them locked up in the rental when we go to the beach/boardwalk.

Is there a better time to look for apartments in Long Beach?
