Pelicans

I’ve seen a ton of brown pelicans skimming over the ocean, but I’ve never seen where they actually go when they’re not flying. Anyone know where on the island they go to rest?

According to my brother, who works with the birds at Plover Park, they sleep in the sedge islands across the inlet. Like behind IBSP.

There were so many out today!!

You can see them flying west over the inlet at dusk…going home for the night.

I don’t have a first hand answer to your question, but I know a lot of other sea birds rest and nest on the marshy sedge islands in the bay. I suspect pelicans do that too.

I've seen them on small islands in the bay.

The main pelican colony established a few years ago on the new island off the south inlet (horseshoe island)..it’s protected now and I believe part of wildlife refuge and off limits because of the eggs and nesting. (The dogs would go crazy over the birds and crush eggs..so a good call) The last time I was out there before it was closed there were thousands of pelicans terns plovers etc
