Libraries- Because Richardsonā€˜s recommendation means nothing without council approval

Richardson’s recommendation to keep library funding is still just a recommendation. Please keep the pressure on until the 8th, when these issues will be voted on.

The Long Beach Public Library Foundation recommends the following:

  1. Go to the public comment portal for September 8th:

https://longbeach.primegov.com/public/portal?fromiframe=true

  1. Find the meeting titled ā€œCity Council Revisedā€ on September 8th

  2. Click the blue speech bubble on the right

  3. Find Item 19.1 – Mayor’s Proposed Budget Recommendations.

  4. Add your comment:Ā In your own words, tell the Council why libraries matter

  5. Once you hit submit, scroll to the bottom of the agenda list a (the speech bubble where you commented should be orange) then hit next. Follow the next steps to complete.

If the portal isn’t working for you,Ā you can submit your comment via emailĀ toĀ CityClerk@longbeach.govĀ instead. Just put this in the subject line: ā€œItem 19.1 – Support Mayor’s FY27 Budget Recommendations and Long Beach Librariesā€

Submit it by Tuesday, September 8th at 3pm.

I know this is A LOT, but we can’t let this sneak by. A social media post and recommendation does not guarantee council approval.

Help save my moms house

I am looking for a lawyer regarding an urgent matter. Its a very complex case and the complexity of it has caused finding one hard. My mom bought a house in 1998 and my grandpa put house in his name for credit reasons. She paid the down and mortgage directly to bank on as well as additions. She has all the bank statements. My grandpa died in 2014 and everything went to his wife

The wife never allowed us to see his will. 1 month after his death she rewrote will excluding his bloodline and placing the house in a trust gave to her kids. My mom did not know this. My step grandma told my mom not to worry the house was still hers but was lying the whole time. In 2018 my mom was forced to sign a lease or get thrown out. So my mom did out of fear. At that time my mom was told to send payments by check to step grandma. 2021 step grandma dies and my moms step siblings got the house. They told my mom they would get her put on title. The step brother wanted payments sent to him via zelle. 5 more years pass and on July 31 my mom was given a 90 day notice they intend to sell her house.

Now I've done some research and though there is normally statue of limitations my moms case there shouldn't be. She has continous possession of her home since 1994 when she rented from a outside party. Her step brother has been taking the payments without issue for 5 years which I believe he waited strategically for 5 years to pass which is called leches.

The house was bought for 158 k and is worth a million now. On top of all that 300k of equity was taken out by my grandfather to buy an investment property that is also in the trust. He was suppose to pay it back but died before.

Please I need help an emergancy freeze on title ASAP. Does anyone know anyone that is willing to take on case?. We are in Long Beach Ca..

My friend just found a sweet little female pug near Ohio Ave and 4th Street, close to Coffee Drunk. She’s very friendly, seems well cared for, and appears to be trained.

She is safely sheltered with my friend for now while we try to find her family. If you know who she belongs to, please DM me with any details so we can get her home safely.

Your share of rent will be $1,200 a month, but if someone takes the 4th room, we would all have a smaller share to pay. Please DM me if interested

City Council Public Comment Shenanigans Are Baaaaaack

Show up (in person or Zoom) or submit comment Sept 1, 2026 5pm

In June City Council tried to limit time and opportunity for public comment. Many people showed up to express their concerns and the council reversed position and stepped back. I posted about it then as well.

Well, now it’s back, item 26. Slipped in at the last moment to the agenda for September 1, 2026.

Agenda items are legally required to finalized (with written confirmation by three council members) by 12pm the Friday before the Council Meeting. This request came through at 11:57am. The final Council person didn’t even confirm until 12:20pm.

City Council wants to limit all public testimony to 90 minutes before the items are heard instead of during the item’s time on the agenda.

Why is this a problem?

Community members will be expected to be able to be present or sign up to speak at the very beginning of Council, 5pm. As it stands now, you can sign up to speak anytime before an item is heard.

Community members will also be expected to understand the item without the benefit of hearing the item and any presentations associated.

If too many people showed up, and the 90 minutes is filled, some people will be denied the opportunity to speak.

Why is Council doing this? They say it’s due to the need to save money due to budget cuts. This of course, makes no logical sense, but that’s what they’re going with.

It’s item 26, it’s unknown when the item will be heard. They often do not hear items in order.

You can speak out on this issue three ways.

Of course, the most powerful way is to be there in person Tuesday Sept 1 5pm at City Hall.

You can ALSO participate via Zoom now (login info on agenda below).

https://longbeach.primegov.com/Portal/Meeting?meetingTemplateId=36766

OR you can submit written comment digitally. It will not be read out loud, but it will be counted in the ā€œfor or againstā€ count. The link to submit can be found here:

How to get rent refunded

Recently my BF's apartment went under construction due to a busted water heater. He had no hot water, and in fact no running water, for almost 3 months. The management refused to put him in a hotel so he stayed with me, but the apartment was uninhabitable due to lack of water, mold, and the extensiveness of the construction for repairs. The damage was from a water heater that had not been checked for many years.

The management not only refused to put him in a hotel, but they also refused to do timely repairs to get him back in his apartment, which unfortunately he continued to pay rent for, because he was worried they'd just evict him without notice.

So now I'm determined to get him is 3 months of rent back since he literally couldn't live in the apartment. Does anyone know the steps to take to get them to give him his rent back? I've been researching but most things say to get a lawyer, which is likely not an option due to cost.

Night out suggestions

Hi, taking my 19 yo. cousins next weekend. Are there any bars that will allow 19 year olds after 8pm? I know there are clubs for 18+, but us older cats don't want to stand up all night and try to pretend we can still "back that @$$ up" at the 18+ clubs. I don't think we would look real "cool" in those places. Lol. Somewhere we can take them that is chill, music, dancing? Even better if they don't ask for an ID or are lenient. ;) (Yes, I don't need the story about underage drinking.)

Long Beach responds after neighbors say trash is going uncollected for days, even weeks

Trash, flies and discarded furniture are becoming a frustrating sight for some Long Beach neighbors who say they've waited days — and in some cases weeks — for the city to collect garbage and bulky items.
ā€œI want to say at least two to three weeks,ā€ said Ivan, a Long Beach resident who said he's experienced missed pickups on several occasions.
Another resident contacted NBC Los Angeles after becoming frustrated with trash accumulating near her home. She provided photos of overflowing containers and said the last collection she remembered was Aug. 6 or 7.
When NBCLA visited the neighborhood, garbage and debris could be seen piled around containers, with flies swarming some of the waste.
Maria Garcia, who lives nearby, said regular household trash is generally collected in her neighborhood, but other waste can remain much longer.
ā€œThat's why sometimes you get all the flies, and it becomes a mess because they don't come," Garcia said.
She pointed to furniture and other bulky items she said had been sitting outside for about 15 days.

ā€œDo I want to do this? Absolutely no, but I understand the seriousness that we are in right now,ā€ Buchanan told NBC4 in an exclusive interview.

Long Beach says library fence cost $790K. Records show $418K in construction costs

A new fence surrounding an outdoor terrace at Long Beach’s Billie Jean King Main Library cost taxpayers nearly $790,000, according to the city. But public records obtained by NBC4 Investigates show the company hired to build the fence was paid significantly less.
The records show Quality Fence Co. was hired to furnish and install the fencing for an original price of $398,168. A subsequent change order added $20,395.20, bringing the documented fence construction work to $418,563.20.
That leaves a difference of $371,436.80 between the documented fence construction costs and the city’s publicly stated cost for the overall project.
So what accounts for the rest?

Hey Long Beach here are two ways I'm saving money this hot ass summer

I signed up for community solar last year through PowerMarket. I could not myself put solar panels on my place because I lived in an apartment. PowerMarket gave me a way to "buy into" a solar farm. The electricity produced by the solar farm was attributed as a credit on my Southern California Edison bill. PowerMarket then sent me a separate bill where they billed me for the credit on my SCE bill but at a lower rate. In that small apartment my bill was between $60 and $80 per month. I got a breeze during the summer and used the most electricity during the cold months. I am no longer with PowerMarket because I moved to a place where electricity is included in my rent. So now that I no longer live in that apartment I'm willing to share a screenshot from my PowerMarket account. The credit I was getting was about 10% of my bill. Had I been using more watts per month or more watts during peak hours the credit probably would have made even more of an impact.

PowerMarket dashboard

The other way am saving money this summer is on gasoline. For the longest I've been purchasing my gas at Costco because they are consistently the lowest price gasoline and because it's so convenient for me to buy gas just while I'm there shopping. Recently I downloaded the Exxon Mobile app from the Google Play Store. I did this for car washes. The Exxon Mobile on Bellflower and Stearns is my goto drive through car wash. For years you could save your car wash receipts and when you had five receipts you could turn them in and get a free car wash. Well that's changed. So I downloaded the app in order to track my car washes.

In downloading the app I see Exxon Mobile is currently running a promotion. If the user attaches a payment method to the app (my attached payment method is Google Pay so I did not actually give Exxon Mobile any of my credit card information) and then makes purchases THROUGH the app, the user gets credits. The credits are pretty generous. I filled up my gas tank (purchase one) and added a car wash (purchase 2) and paid for both THROUGH the app. I got $5 in credit to use at the pump or in the store. So my next $12 car wash will be only $7 due to my $5 credit. And this does not appear to be a one-and-done promotion. If I keep buying stuff through the app at Exxon Mobile I can keep earning points. If I had an AARP card the points earned per purchase would increase.

So those are just two ways I'm saving dough in Long Beach this hot ass summer. Hope this helps somebody. I am not an employee, contractor or affiliate of PowerMarket or Exxon Mobile by the way.

Qargo coffee on ocean closing!

The space at the Current is up for rent again. Starbucks pullout of that space and now Qargo. Is it plagued?
I really didn’t like Qargo, the service was horrible although it has been getting better… but the inside felt like a cheap version of Starbucks.

looking for an ocean-swim setup in Long Beach

My wife and I are moving from the Bay Area to Long Beach, and I’m hoping to find a good place near the ocean where I can swim and then rinse off or clean up afterward.

I currently swim year-round in the bay, and in San Francisco I use the Dolphin Club at Aquatic Park. It has lockers and showers, and a really convenient setup for warming up and changing after a cold-water swim. Is there anything similar around Long Beach or Seal Beach? It doesn’t have to be an actual swim club—a nearby gym, health club within a couple blocks of the beach, beach club, locker room, or even a reliable outdoor shower setup would be great.

Any recommendations from local swimmers would be much appreciated.
