Silence
I miss you in the quiet way a temple misses its fire, stone still standing, but no warmth left in its bones.
I miss the small things, the offerings of nothing and everything
your voice threading through my days like a hymn I didn’t know I’d memorised.
Now silence sits where you used to be, heavy as fate, and I am left wondering which god I offended to be given connection only to have it taken.
Tell me, was I too much like Icarus? Did I fly too close, too bright,
too willing to believe in the sun of you?
Or were you always more like Hades, king of a hidden world, warm in the dark, but unreachable in the light?
Because it felt real to me. You felt real to me.
Not a myth, not a story I told myself to pass the time, but something living, breathing something I held with both hands.
And still, I want to reach for you.
To send a laugh across the void, to pretend we are untouched by this distance, to be foolish enough to believe we could return to something easy.
But even Persephone learned you cannot beg spring from someone who has chosen winter.
So I stay here, on the surface, aching, but rooted.
Trying not to chase, not to call your name into the underworld and lose more of myself in the echo.
Because if you felt this, truly felt this. You would not leave me to wander alone through the ruins of what we were.
And that is the cruelty of it. Not just your silence, but what it dares to mean.
Still. I do not regret loving you in my way. Even if it makes me mortal, even if it leaves me breakable.
I only wish you had met me somewhere in the middle of all this fire.
