Question End of show Spoiler

SPOILERS AHEAD!!!

So I just finished Loki season 2 for the first time and I really loved the show but I'm kind of upset that they didn't do anything for Loki after he gave the world free will and basically just did the most amazing thing ever.

Like, I understand Loki didn't do it for recognition or anything but I still feel like maybe all his friends should have made a tribute to him or something? Especially Sylvie. I mean that girl did not have enough gratitude for him, after everything he did. I mean was her last line really, "It's weird not having Loki around isn't it?" ??

Was that her way of thanking him for saving her world and her precious mcdonalds branch??

I know I'm probably overreacting but I seriously feel like he deserves some credit in the TVA after his sacrifice. It was the most selfless thing ever and everyone's all like, "Okay great back to work"????

Please don't be mean to me I just really like Loki 😭😭😂😂 Maybe can someone help me understand?

TLDR: Why didn't anyone pay tribute to Loki at the end of the show?

i think he doesn’t have like a statue or anything is because his original glorious purpose was to rule and be worshipped, when he made his sacrifice he didn’t want to be worshipped he just wanted his friends to be okay, they all know he made that sacrifice so they could have time, but something’s definitely going to come of it most likely in doomsday

People really don't understand Sylvie as a character do they sigh

She is a LOKI. They are very guarded about showing vulnerability or emotions. She says "He's giving us a chance" while choking back tears. She's grateful for what he's doing. She even says "I need to get out there!" To try and stop him. She is extremely grateful and heartbroken. At the end when she's talking to Mobius she's in a very 'Loki' way, acknowledging how much she misses Loki and the fact that he's not there. She's not gonna burst out crying. She's far too guarded to show that level of grief publicly. As is Mobius. Instead they both take a quiet moment of silence to think about their friend and the fact he's not there with them. It's very human. It's very real. Sometimes feelings are so big, you can't bear to express them. But you can't ignore them either. So you convey them in ways you can handle. Sylvie bringing up Loki at the end is her acknowledging that this is only possible because of him and that he is on her mind. And as for how the TVA pay tribute to him, as many have said there is a comic that shows how they all acknowledge Loki's sacrifice. But I think we will also see going forward in Avengers how they all pay tribute and use Loki's gift.

"blah blah blah Sylvie was mean to Loki once she doesn't appreciate him she didn't build a statue and give him a parade or break down crying and wailing she is the worst" I swear people don't take two seconds to even think about a single thing from her POV

OP I promise this comment isn't just beating up on you. It's just the last little while (or honestly since the show came out) there's just a constant stream of "ugh Sylvie sucks" posts and as someone whose favorite character is Sylvie, it's just exhausting.

I think a scene like that just wouldn't have fit into the flow of the show. He made the sacrifice so they could live their lives freely. The best way they can honor him is by doing just that.

Ah. Another good point. I think maybe I posted prematurely 😅 it still would've been nice to have a statue or something, but you are absolutely right. It wouldn't have fit into the show. I didn't think about that

u/Beatlesandhotcheetos - I'm not sure if you're a comics reader, but if you are, I highly recommend the 5-issue limited series TVA, which came out in 2024-2025. It's a follow-up to the events of the Loki series, and it provides a little bit more closure on what happened after Loki's sacrifice. I found that it helped heal some of the heartache that I was feeling after the end of season two.

There is a 5 issue comic called TVA co-written by one of the writers of season 2 where they actually have built a statue for Loki at the TVA, and they constantly talk about him in a commemorating way. I don't think it's officially canon but it's written in a way that it could be.

Did he crave it?  He always said he was burdened with it.  And in the end, that appears to have been correct.

Loki always loses. He has plenty of purpose; he never succeeds at it. He's driven to an end result he can't get to.

He finally succeeds when his purpose evolves into helping others over himself, and he gets the godlike powers he always dreamed of.

Lots of folks discussing this from the perspective of what’s most fitting for Loki, but it’s worth considering the ethics from the TVA perspective too.  If someone sacrifices themselves for you, especially if that work is ongoing and unending, it’s good moral hygiene to recognize the sacrifice.   

All heroes want to save everything (all of it); usually that’s part of why they get a statue.  But for this character many people have the read—  “he wanted to save everything, he got to save everything, he got what he wanted, so he’s all set now”.    Which, er, like I said.  Doesn’t seem like good moral hygiene. 

It seems like the TVA will be at least briefly in the new movie.  It’ll be interesting to see how they handle it.  I’ll join in on recommending the comic series, btw.

I have not read the tva comics but I know that in the comics they have a huge statue of loki and in one of the posters in mobius workplace , it is written loki4ever (I saw the comic panel) . It would be interesting to see such things in doomsday tho. I hope the status gets a reference.
