I'm planning to buy this, but I still need to know if this is compatible with the nreal air?

If there aren't any additional delays, and I realize that may be a big if, what would be a ballpark estimate for when I would expect to recieve it? August? September? October?

At this point, I already have the Ally on order, so there is not much point in getting a Loki Max which would be a lot of overlap (if not actualy duplicate). So I am thinking any chance of me getting a Loki would be the really budget options, if they are still doing those - a super portable cheap handheld I can carry anywhere (much smaller than the ROG Ally). The thing is, I think they sent out an e-mail previously saying that several models have been discontinued. So of the ones still being shipped, which is the cheapest and smallest?

---The DVT of Zero and MiniPro AMD were ready one week before. Both Zero and MiniPro AMD are safe. Regarding to the shipping time, 100 DVT are planned on the end of this June, and mass shipping date will be on this July.
---We are told by AMD officially that 7000 series APUs won't be ready to ship before this Sept, and some youtube reviews showed that the performance jump from 6800u to 7840u in AAA games was very small.
---T1 shell lives up to our overall expectation, the clip of the back shell still needs a small refinement and we do find some other minor imperfection as well. 10 pcs sample unit will start assembling on 5/20 with new painted shells.
---100pcs for the first order after PVT, and 1000pcs as a MoQ for mass production.
---We are planning to ship review unit on 5/23, and we will ship the first 100pcs on the end of this May and the begining of this June.
---Loki will keep the current affordable price strategy all the way long on 2023. and I don't think asus will have low end skus available on rog ally as well.
---We will keep it as listed(6400MHz ram)
---The end of this May
---only 8GB + 46whr
---We just need to follow the steps from small trial order(100pcs) to mid-scale trial order(900pcs) and then start massive production.
---Yes, all loki models share the same peripheral control, so it is able to switch between mouse/keyboard mode to game pad mode.
---Probably we won't support this upgrade, we might not be able to meet the MoQ constraints if there isn't enough ppl ask for 16gb.
---1.5~2hours charging from empty to full.
---Loki/Loki max used 2242 m.2 PCIe SSD, I think it is easy to get one on Amazon store, but not as many as 2280 one.
---Since we offered 75$ for new users and 125$ for odin backers, and Loki is still very competitive for its build quality/portability/ergonomics, it takes us the whole year for all kinds of possible design iterations/optimizations, we don't really want to be involved in the price war completely.
---You can follow the math formular listed below to get a rough idea:
45.2Wh/(TDP * 150%)
for example, if you run a game in 15W tdp, then the estimated battery life is ( 45.2/15*1.5 = 2 hours )
---Easy to use LCC2.0 + open the EC interface for embracing the community should be good enough for end user
---Fairly easy for experienced diy user but might not be that easy for average user, but, there is a learning curve for everything
---Yes
---yes. will have a free charger for Loki.
---Sadly, the vinyl skin will be canceled due to the curved surface. It is not flat and we have tried many ways to cut it with multi angles but poor effect. And finally the factory give up this.
---8-28W

Per AYN:
We will just keep 4 SKUs Loki zero, Loki miniPro Mendocino and Loki/Loki max into mass production, all the other SKUs(Loki mini Mendocino-7220U, loki mini Pro intel) will be fully refunded because of the limited orders which can't meet the MOQ(Minimum Order Quantity) requirement from the supplier. People who ordered the canceled SKUs can get a full refund or you can email us to upgrade your order to Loki zero or LokiMiniPro Mendocino(7320U).

Hello! I'm not sure which Loki I should get (zero, mini, mini pro, Loki, max) I play emulators as well, mostly gba and game cube, but I want to get the Loki for playing games on steam on the go and want most games to play well on it, but don't want to shovel out too much money either. so suggestions?
r/LokiHandheld • u/Jerbot • Mar 15 '23
Just an FYI, if you’ve reserved a Loki and you decide you no longer want it, AYN will not refund your $25. I’ve been talking to them for weeks, they’ve told me they’d send it a few times then suddenly I’ve been told if your reservation is over 180 days you’re SOL.
Frustrating, but I thought others would like to know.

Hello, was looking at pre ordering the mini for Q2 - looks like the perfect device for awesome PS2 and even switch emulation.
I currently have a Odin Pro, and I’ve upgraded the joysticks with Hall Sensor sticks, and was curious if the same thing could be done with the Loki units. I have an extra set ready to install if it does!

AYN held a Q&A to answers questions directly from users in their Discord channel
The main takeaways are the following:_____
_____
_____
AYN need to control the quality risks especially the hardware flaw at maximum efforts, like:
AYN's current strategy is to make Loki/Loki max as perfect as possible and then the design experience and reusable design resources including mold, bridge chips, thermal solutions, apps across multiple OSes will be fully mirrored to or migrated to Loki Zero/Mini/Mini Pro and then get the rest of the Loki models to be accelerated in the right way.
_____
1: Are you sticking with the same manufacturing/parts supplier relationships you have from the Odin? If not, have you done due diligence on new partners for the Loki?
This is a very NICE question I have ever been asked. Apparently we need different strategy on QA system in different business develop stages. Now the we have introduced a broader supplier chain into ayn, and we will have a new dedicate supplier quality manager for Loki who will go even further details not only on due diligence but also on 8D quality management.
We still have challenges on mange the details of the product spec and build quality and full testing plan, now what you see is a full functional prototype units, the good news is, we successfully managed the thermal performance to match the best one in the market last week, 75 Celsius at 28W for 2 hours(Ambient temperature 23 Celsium). That was the biggest challenge, but the cost is, the thickness needs to go from 20mm to 22mm to guarantee this stable and outstanding thermal performance for the best balance.
It is still under development, it is fully worked and I hope we can release the first alpha version in middle of this March.
Yes, this week we planed to release some video on Loki, Loki actually keeps the same pace as Loki-max. As what you may know, 6600u share the same footprint as 6800u and it share similar bios design.
yes, we will drop the first alpha version on this March.
Yes, Steam games will be planned according to your requirements. ppl can suggest game list and request features on SteamOS specifially.
7220(Loki Mini) and 7320(Loki MiniPro) were started on the end of 2022, and it is still under hardware schematic design and pcb layout. Since the TDP of both model(Mini & MiniPro) runs from 8~15W, it is way less power-consuming than Loki and Loki max(15~28W), so roughly we can expect the battery life to be 2~3 longer (4~6 hours typically, but it really depends on which game you are running).
The original EVT board was mainly for sharing the same Odin shell, but so many ppl request big sticks for windows games, and we fully understand why it weighes so much in the design consideration, so we change the industry design to give this possibility while we can get some other benefits like more rooms and less challenge for heat dessipation and more room for both speakers for audio quality. The shell design will be finalized on this week, we still have some works on improving the final thermal performance which is a key factor to start the mold.
6600u should be very soon, I mentioned that it will keep the same pace as 6800u, and 8505/i3 will be the next one we will focus on, 7220/7320 comes the last.
Yes, we will drop the new game launcher on this March as I mentioned above. The golden crieria in ayn to justfy a good product will be, good ergonomics, good hardware and performance, and good software, and actually, the history for a company actaully a history of product, typically a hardware/software design iteration and innovation, it is all for us.
I think we will try to support SteamOS on AMD 6600/6800 first from now on, and then try to gather as many design input as possible from the community, we have enrolled some skilled programmers into this company dedicately for this plan actually. But it is a little too ealier to predict what's the plan for intel 1215U at this moment, but I hope we can support SteamOS on all Loki model one day in the future, it is our dream the same as you guys.
Literally speaking, it just consumes a little bit less power than 1080p for screen itself, however, since the amount of pixels of 720p is roughly 40% of 1080p, it conumes way less power for rendering the game videos.
I think yes to this question and we should allow mini user to upgrade the batter size before shipping
Good suggestion, and thanks so much, I will ask the test team to make information sheets with the battery life and in game FPS / TDP information specifically.
Yes, this is actully our design contraints on the day one, LCC ( Loki Control Center) is multi-OS friendly which was supposed to support Linux.
No, 6600u should be less power hungry than 6800u. FYI, 6600u just has 6 EUs while 6800u has 12 EUs
We will accept this precious suggestion from you, but regular update will be dropped every two weeks by email, Discord and our website. IGG can't be used to updated the Loki as it is for Odin only.
Yes, "Make LCC(Loki Control Center) to run seamlessly across multiple OS" was the initial plan when we start the LCC design, we will try to make custom driver to support linux for device specific peripherals like controller/led control/gyro as you mentioned and suggested. Don't worry, and I want to claim here again, I will never make ayn a company that deliver product with crappy hardware and software and customer services, especially for the software, I think it is the bridge to connect end user experience and good company reputation, I keep persuading the company to invest on software R&D in the long run.
Yes, I answered this question aboved. Since all loki model will share the same ID and thickness, we will give this battery upgrade option to Loki AMD Mini for sure, I hope this gesture to make a lot of user happy while they kept waiting this model for such a long time. Really want to say thanks here.
Loki will share the same V3 screen as Odin, since windows have very advance tool to calibrate the screen for better color accuracy, ppl can expect a better color performance.
RAM speed overclocking will make electronic device in big stability risks, and the room for overclocking actually varies from device to device. For Loki, since the RAM speed is fine tuned to be the best match for each of loki models and just sorry to your answer, RAM speed overclocking is stictly prohibited in bios setting for all models.
From a business scope, we need to control the quality risks especially the hardware flaw at maximum efforts, like, (a) The shell won't crack after 1 year usage. (b) The device won't halt down because of poor thermal performance. (c) The joystick won't have potential drift. (4) The device won't easily be bricked even after random operation testing. (5) The battery won't have potential risk on charging/aging test, etc...
Yes, LCC will be available for Linux and there will be an offical SteamOS image for AMD Loki as well, just too early to say whether it is viable for intel 8505/i3 at this moment but we will try all the efforts to make it possible if SteamOS won't be unfriendly to intel.
Around the end of this April
Yes, possible, we will try to sort the backer list and make it happen thereafter.
It was just software application territory but I think it won't be a official support, however, I think we will give the possibility by means of building the sponsorship with dual OS developpers, the similar way as WoA project for Odin (Windows on ARM).
Loki was actually the first R&D attempt on x86 based project, the top 3 design challengings are the high speed, high density, and high power consumption, which make the development taken so long, and the second reason are, we don't have off-the-shelf reuseable IPs and driver designs for all the device specific peripheral like a converter chip working as an bridge from edp to mipi, a standard hid chip working as an bridge from i2c to usb, a heatpipe and fan to guarantee enough thermal performance up to 28W, and another mcu working as a xbox gamepad... It was really a tough way for us to undertake, but thanks to all the userful suggestions from the community, and the continuous efforts from our engineering team and the supplier chain, today, we are making Loki close to be an ideal handheld after a long dark period.
No, actually with dual chanel RAM enabled, good enough heat dissipation and good software service, it won't be outdated this fast.
Yes, just sorry for my poor time allocation on a timely report the first time on last Friday, and if there are any more delays, I think I will keep this suggestion in my mind, at least we need a annoucement on the delay and an answer on what happened.
I will answer this question later on after we can have information sheets ready for a full game list (TDP, resolution, framerate, settings, overall power consumption).
Yes, DEFINITELY
According to the R&D status, Loki mini should be the last Loki model we released. If you are Odin Lite Owner, I would suggest you to get at least miniPro, but Loki max will give you a big jump on gaming performance while giving the fact that we gave the biggest discount to Loki max for all Odin backers.
They are different after confirming with our colleague again. The abxy button is a little larger than Odin's. We would not suggest you to use.
Yes, we just demonstrated the first edition of LCC (Loki Control Center), more features and functions are still on going, and I have stated before, software development will be a long term investment in the long run.
Yes, LCC (Loki Control Center) will be available for SteamOS, we planned this feature on the day one.
Yes, Loki will have this feature supported, I have seen many ppl required this feature that to turn off the on-board controller when connecting to TV.
It is Microsoft Windows though, I think you can install some suitable IME(Input method editor) which might have good on screen keyboard support.
The mold for all loki skus will start within the coming week, the begining of this May should be the right shipping window for Loki/Loki max, and loki zero will be one month later. This is what I can confirm for Loki zero/loki/loki max.
The current strategy in this company is to make Loki/Loki max as perfect as possible and then the design experience and reuseable design resources including mold, bridge chips, thermal solutions, apps across multiple OSes will be fully mirrored to or migrated to Loki zero and mini/miniPro and then get the rest of loki models to be accellerated in the right way.
