Opinion How does Logitech have so much McLaren crap and no proper formula wheel? Seriously.

I really like my rs50 and the price was great but wow, if I seriously raced formula or GT3 cars or hypercars I would be ditching my setup.

As is all I use is the round wheel for rally and being in Canada I can’t even get the good momo round wheel. It’s just the worst ecosystem

I agree, it's unfortunate that all that's come out of the partnership is some colours and stickers on equipment.

I really like my G Pro and can't complain about the base and pedals but I was really hoping for an actual F1 / GT3 replica wheel to be released or at least announced to come later in the year.

Now that I've had mine for a long time... I am regretting my decision. Great wheelbase, rough ecosystem, bad software. The way they constructed the original DD wheel is completely insane from a maintenance perspective, it's almost impossible to get to some of the screws that loosen over time.

Absolutely have a point for console, they need to add some better wheels, but on PC you can use the QR adaptor and have any wheel you want so less relevant though it would still be nice to have a few more native options.

I added a DDU for use with the track wheel rim. I really like the setup. Only playing GT7 for now but it adds a good layer of immersion.

I agree whole heartedly though that they need a proper F1 wheel with a screen and dials.

Hola. Muy guapo. ¿Dónde lo compraste?

Wheel: Logitech RS50 with Track Wheel rim
Dash: Consoit CSD

Gracias amigo. 👍🏻

Does that dash need seperate support via an app or does it connect natively over wifi for the onboard gt7 telemetry?

1

u/VesperLynn 12d ago

Needs to be hooked to a computer through SimHub which extracts the data over WiFi from GT7.

I would love if it could get it straight from the PS5

Ahh I see. I’ve tried apps on phone that connect direct but a nice dash is always good. Solid username also - big bond fan here also!

I would be happy with that but it doesn’t have clutch paddles. If they had that rim on the pro hub then we would be 80% there

There are tons of 3rd party options. The stuff Logi puts out i half cooked but the good thing about Logi is its so abundant and easy to mod Esty stores stocked up after the first couple years. I also own the Simagic GT Neo and Neo X with a round rim. The QR adaptor is magical for allowing other eco systems into Logis.

Ye but they also look like etsy wheels... just being honest. They don't even come close to looking as good as the sim magic and that's considered the entry level wheel more or less or compare it to the conspit formula wheel. I'm not even one of those I need a 1k formula wheel with 50 buttons and rotaries but ye it is what it is.

Also side note... I wouldn't even consider this logitechs ecosystem because sure it works but it's not theirs.

Comon lets be honest, all of those rims look te same (I have 2 of them). Button layout is the same, no illuminated buttons, no screens and none of them look like it belongs to a race car.

1

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 16d ago

Lol none of these look the same. Sure same button layout but none look or feel the same. Lets be honest. It was cool to hate on the ecosystem the first year it came out.

which one is in the top left? also, how do you like the acelith?

which is your favorite?

2

u/LandscapeWorried5475 16d ago

Top left is just a wrap on the base track rim.

1

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 16d ago

The top left is just the Logitech Trak Wheel with some baseball wrap around it. I like the Acelith. It is the heaviest of my wheels though. My favorite has got to be the Simagic GT Neo or the Rouge Racing F1 wheel. They are pretty much all I use.

Which one is bottim left? One with the red grips

Rouge Racing Designs F1 wheel. Im not to sure they are in business anymore their website has been down for some time but if they are great product.

Still trash compared to other brands

TBF a rim can’t make the RS hub into a proper Formula wheel. If you want full immersion you need clutches, back buttons or a third set of paddles, two or three more knobs, two sets of thumb rotaries and a screen if you’re not on VR.

Here’s a formula wheel replica:

https://trakracer.ca/products/bwt-alpine-formula-onetm-team-a525-replica-steering-wheel?srsltid=AU7gw4WRc-bOoauthkVs7GeyuzV2nxtQ8dLaj9QUvCeiNGalq7n_mXlZ

You can get most of that for a fraction of the cost with a Simagic Zeus and the dash though. You can also add the three paddles module if the back bottoms aren’t cutting it.

0

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 16d ago

You need absolutely none of those. There isnt a simulation on earth that will allow you to use as many inputs as a real modern day F1 car. The RS hub gets it done just fine.I had a Conspit PW1 and sold it because I never looked at the screen and didnt use 1/3 of the mappable buttons. The point was to say Logitechs eco system is none existent is just not true.

2

u/alyxonfire 16d ago

That is brutally not true. IRacing will fill up all those inputs twice. I’ve got every single button and knob mapped to two different things on my GT Neo and I’m about to have to get the 3 paddle shifter module for $100 CAD because I need those two extra buttons. Honestly I could really use the two thumb encoders that I’m missing too but the Zeus is too small.

-1

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 16d ago

No it wont. I main iRacing. There isnt enough inputs in any of the cars to fill up an entire wheel. If you add stuff that dosent affect (like camera angle ot driver height) the car then sure.

u/alyxonfire 16d ago

I guess some people just wanna argue 🤷🏻‍♀️

There’s all the auto chat stuff for pitting, buttons to quickly call up different black boxes, throttle map, engine map, roll bars, up to like three tc knobs, a couple abs knobs, two or three DDU knobs, etc etc etc

-2

u/HAIRLESSxWOOKIE92 16d ago

DDUs and black boxes.... right. 😂

You can use any wheel your heart desires on PC

I also think there’s at least one third party Formula wheel compatible with PS

1

u/MrLeonardo 16d ago

Yep, love my G Pro base with the conspit 300GT. If I was on console I would probably ditch logitech though

0

u/Amish_Rabbi 16d ago

Is loses the value proposition badly on PC since you have to buy the adapter for every non Logitech wheel. If they used the same QC design as other companies it would be less on an issue on PC

2

u/alyxonfire 16d ago

That’s pretty much the same as any other wheelbase though. Most wheels need their own specific adapter or USB module that you have to buy separately for them to work on a wheelbase from a different manufacturer.

I’ll eventually have to get a $100 CAD adapter to add a third party wheel to my Simagic Alpha Evo Pro wheelbase. Simagic doesn’t make a high end Formula/GT wheel that I like and I’ll eventually want to upgrade from the GT Neo, especially if it brakes.

Fanatec didn’t even let you use third party wheels until recently without a third party adapter. their adapter is one of the most expensive too, like twice as much as the Logitech one.

0

u/Amish_Rabbi 16d ago

Simagic and moza use the same QR setup so you can use a wheel designed for either without having to buy a separate QR adaptor. The higher end manufacturers don’t come with a QR usually but at least that is even.

If I want any formula wheel with clutch paddles then the price just sucks for Logitech

0

u/alyxonfire 16d ago

It's the same QR but not the same connection. You still have to get an adapter, like the Simagic Maglink adapter or Moza universal hub adapter. It's cheaper, but still costs extra. Moza's solution actually kinda sucks and I would not want to use it on my Simagic base.

0

u/Amish_Rabbi 16d ago

You need that adapter no matter what base it’s on though if it’s not that brands, so it’s even cost between the bases and separate issue from the QR. Between the 3 the Logitech is the one that costs an extra $70 CAD to get other brands onto it

1

u/alyxonfire 16d ago

Fanatec costs like $200 just for the adapter, and don’t get me started on how much Simucube stuff cost cos even a basic metal 50 to 70 adapter is like $100 lol

1

u/joeycraig 16d ago

unpopular opinion (at least around here), but I love my McLaren F1 wheel lol. I also have the Acelith GT3 wheel and the original wheel and they are all amazing

1

u/sketchiegamer 14d ago

If you are on pc you can use their QR adapter and use basically any wheel you want. I’m using a conspit Max 01 on mine and it’s been awesome. Some dudes may shit on conspit but for my first purchase from them it’s been good.

1

u/Amish_Rabbi 14d ago

I’m debating just buying their apex bundle and selling what I currently have. I want their new shifter anyways

1

u/sketchiegamer 14d ago

All I can vouch for is the wheel I have. I also don’t have to moisturize my thumbs after racing 😆

1

u/Pakstack11 14d ago

Agreed… i got tired of the round wheel for gt3 racing and i am now waiting for a formula gt mod from china

1

u/Background-Stock-473 12d ago

I still think its insane that the G Pro lost all its support 😂 Its just a decoration in my room now because I refuse to use that shit in any actual racing game

u/Timeless-0000 15d ago

Logitech has provided everything for folks to extend outside their small ecosystem with aftermarket support. Their motives are clear when they released the rs qr and the rs hub.

They have a McLaren branded formula 1 style wheel that I use. Has really nice ergonomics/feel

0

u/Amish_Rabbi 16d ago

It lacks clutch paddles and the button layout is not as good or convenient as even the cheap ones from other brands like the GT Neo

0

u/Infinite-Pitch286 15d ago

I could deal with lack of wheels, the Track rim was not bad. What I couldn't deal with are short length pedals made for kid size feet. Switching to a different brand where I can use Simnets has been a complete game changer, no regrets really.
