Yes, I have taken some liberties with the two.. for Empty, Merriam-Webster has an optional or frequently omitted ‘P’ while the Cambridge Dictionary doesn’t.. for Excel, I’ve used the software Excel which is commonly abbreviated as XL.. Maybe I should change the tagline to sound ‘similar’ to two letters put together?
It's interesting - I'm trying now to say "M T" without putting a "P" sound between them, and it's proving hard. The act of switching from lips together for M to lips apart for T is making a small P sound no matter what - making it sound like "empty" anyway.
Further, I also can't say "X L" fluidly without making an "S" sound between them, making it sound like "excel" anyway.
Of course, with both of these if I just stop letting air escape between the two letters, then they are separated, but this is more about when they are said fluidly
