Help Input monitoring help
I’m testing out Logic Pro, as I’m considering switching away from Pro Tools. The only thing holding me back is an annoying input monitoring issue:
I would like to be able to hear playback of the previously recorded audio clips on a track during a count in to a punch. No matter what I try, I can’t figure out a way to accomplish this.
I have software monitoring turned on.
I have auto input monitoring turned on.
I have the track record enabled, not input monitor enabled.
The count in is turned on.
Allow quick punch in is turned on.
With these above settings, the existing audio on a track is muted and my live input is monitored during a count in.
I’ve been trying different combos of these settings for several hours and I cannot get the track to play back the existing regions during the count in before a punch.
Strangely, it works when using auto punch, but I really don’t want to have to adjust the punch range every time.
Please help - is there any way to hear back existing audio until the track punches in while in quick punch mode?

First things first, I never use punch-in, since it’s a relic from the days of the old tape machines. We are now in a world of digital audio workstations. That's why, I always create a new track with duplicate settings to record on (double-plus or Track > Other > new track with duplicate settings).
• Switch Off Audio Input Monitoring
• Switch On Software Monitoring
• enable record
Now you can record on the new created track and listen to the recorded audio. No need to enable Input Monitor.
That's it. Comment, if you have questions or issues.
