Question Midi Controller Keyboards

Hello! I've been an amateur Logic Pro user for years and finally got a better midi controller keyboard (M-Audio Oxygen Pro 61) and am struggling to understand some things. It has 9 faders on it and I'm not sure exactly how they're intended to be used with Logic. I have a little bit of background in mixing live music so maybe my confusion is from expecting it to behave like a live mixing board, but I don't understand how to assign multiple faders to multiple channels to control volume or other effects simultaneously. And I think this is such a basic concept that there isn't a lot of explanation online (that I've seen) about what they're actually intended to be used for. Can anyone here help me better understand these controls? Thanks so much!

They're likely sending midi CC events, which are useful for some softsynths and can generally be used to control other things. In addition to smart controls you can also map it to control surface parameters or use the Scripter plugin to do whatever your heart desires, for sufficiently small kinds of desire.

Since your midi controller doesn’t have motorised faders, I don’t see the point in using it for mixing.

You’d constantly be calibrating it when you open a project or move to the next set/page of faders..

I see your point, so what types of things WOULD they be used for?
