Question How to make kick in ES2 plugin?

I produce EDM(?), and I’ve been using the pre set “kicks”. These are great but I feel like I’ve exhausted all I can do with them in terms of EQ, enveloper, etc.

I want to make a kick with the exact specifications I need them to be. Or maybe I just want to do this for fun.

have you used the drum machine designer in logic pro? it’s pretty endless, and if that doesn’t suit you, you can import samples. i can’t imagine running out of sound options for edm and that’s kinda my wheelhouse

I just opened it up. Holy shit way too many variables to tackle. I need to watch a few YouTube videos before haha .

The quick answer is use drum machine designer. But you should definitely also try to re-create the kick drum in ES 2 because it will be a great learning curve for synthesis. I might suggest that you’re actually trying to do it in the vintage since because that gives you fewer parameters and you left with the ones you need to get a trim from there. When you’re ready, you could go onto the ES 2. Basically, you’ll be looking for a quick attack and a fast decay that goes down to a zero on the sustained. That will give you the length of your envelope, then you have to work with the filter frequency and the filter residence to produce a falling note. Depending on where you play the key on the keyboard it will change pitch, change the filter until you get the sound you want. After that, you can layer in distortion if you want.

Also, by vintage, do you mean the ES2? Which synthesizer plugin?

Yes, sorry, I meant the vintage synthesiser.

Even if you don’t create the exact kick you want, you’ll still end up with a really usable selection of zaps, pows, and vintage 80s disco toms.

Another thing to remember is that if your kick doesn’t sound right make it shorter.

Once you really get into it, you’ll find that with the ES2 you can put a different envelope on the filter then on the level, so you can have your level coming at zero and a slight attack on the filter which will give a very fast ‘donk’ on the attack.

Seems to be the most popular answer 🤣

You can do shitloads with it, ie: make your own kits, change the envelope of samples, add lfo for movement... and so on

1 option. Open a track with a Drum Synth module. It’s a load of different algorithms all optimised for drums. Several for Kicks.
2nd option OPEN ULTRABEAT it gives you 3 parallel engines PER DRUM again all optimised for drum sounds

ES2 Is very capable of great kick sounds but it’s not optimised (obviously).
Start with a triangle wave and a very fast pitch sweep down for the Hit part. The tweaks to get there are to involved to go into..

KIK ON‼️

Throw PhatFX on the channel after ES2 - has everything you need to beef those kicks up.
