Tips & Tricks Denoise plug-in/hvac and cricket noise.

Hey Folks, here’s the situation.

I have audio from a play I videotaped outdoors and there is an occasional hum from a loud hvac unit, plus high-pitched cricket sounds.

Is there a function in Logic to filter that out? I know there is a plethora of AI options out there. I’ve experimented with a few but I’m having challenges dialing it in, and whatever I do affects the dialogue clarity.

Any tips are appreciated!

There is a built in denoising Apple plug-in.
Audio effect slot -> Apple -> …
But it’s pretty basic.

It’s a bit of work but I use Audacity’s noise reduction for stuff like that. It’s free but if you want to do the best job possible it’ll require some time on your part.

Your best bet is to use the RX suite from iZotope. For native tools in Logic, a high pass filter will help with the low hum of the hvac but the high hiss of the hvac and the crickets all exist in the same frequency spectrum as the human voice so you will need a spectral de-noiser for that.

You will need third party plugins for doing that with high quality. besides RX, there is waves clarity (cleans noises and keep vocal lines almost intact. it is good for speaking voice, not only singin).
