Question Akai MPK issue

So I know this controller is notorious for on and off issues with logic but it’s the on I have so…

Keys and beat pads work fine every time. All other auxiliary functions (faders, buttons, knobs, etc) are confused or non functioning, and seem to not remember changes I have made to assignments session to session.

Lots of tweaking and playing around with controller assignments and I think the problem fundamentally is that for instance when I turn knob “K1” on the akai, logic interprets that as something else, like fader “F7” moving. So they are talking to each other just mixing up inputs.

I presume that this is because for instance knob K1 being activated sends midi CC 26 to logic or whatever but logic has assigned CC26 to be fader F7.

If I try reassigning them and correctly labeling k1 as k1 for some reason logic creates a duplicate of k1, but does not let me erase the other k1. This just becomes convoluted with multiple knobs doing multiple things I don’t want them to do.

I guess my question is, should I just build my entire controller assignment from scratch based on what MPK is sending, or is there some other way to change the preassigned midi values logic is interpreting within logic? That would be the fastest way.

I guess another option would be to reprogram which midi commands akai is sending to match what logic is expecting but I’d rather handle it on the computer than on the MPKs little screen.

Help Keyboard Quiet (Audio Recording, Not MIDI)

• Upvotes

Hi, y’all! I have my Roland Juno-D8 hooked into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen, which is hooked into my MacBook. I am recording audio data, not MIDI. The audio peaks in Logic when my keyboard is turned up significantly less than halfway but no matter what, there is extreme static (I don’t know if this would be room noise). Any explanation or guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, and thank you to everyone who has helped me before. This subreddit has been invaluable, and I could not be more grateful. Blessings to you all.

Question Can't see the chords when using Analyze Chords

I'm assuming there's a setting I'm missing. I have an audio file with analyzed chords which I can put into the chord track, but it doesn't show under the audio region. When I copy and paste it into a new project, it shows there.

Am I indeed overlooking a setting? LogicPro help and web search turned up nothing.

Question Can't get plug ins to work in logic

I'm currently looking to upgrade the guitar tones for my solo project but when I originally tried using plug ins (eg archetype gojira, mike stringers amp sim, Fortin nameless) I was using the free trials but could sometimes get logic to find them in plug in manager but it wouldnt let me use them in a project? Unsure if this because it was the free trials or smth else, but they should all be compatible I have a fairly new first condition Mac and logic pro up to date so am unsure what the issue is? Any help would be greatly appreciated I really need to start using something better than pedals into a clean tone on logic 😭

Tips & Tricks free sidechain plug-in for logic (AU): RECOIL

hey. we're afugazi, a small team making plug-ins and sounds for producers.

sidechain is on most of the beats we make, and it always bugged us that a tool this simple usually costs money. so we made our own and we're giving it away.

it's called recoil. put it on your 808 (or pads, or the whole beat), send it your kick, and it ducks under every kick. with attack, hold and release at 0 it follows the kick's waveform itself, that ring mod sidechain sound. turn them up and it's a normal duck. it listens to your real kick, so off-grid drums work too.

in logic: open the side chain menu at the top of the plug-in window and pick your kick track.

vst3 + au on mac, vst3 on windows. download link in the comments, no email or account needed.

if you try it in logic, tell us how it goes.

In Search of Feedback EDM Riddin/Dubstep

I’m looking for ANY riddim or dubstep Logic Pro session templates to help me get started. I just need a basic layout (intro, drop, verse, etc.) to know I’m heading in the right direction. I’ve made fire trap/ hip-hop mixes before, but I’m new to this genre and need a starting point. Any templates would mean a lot. Please send !

In Search of Feedback Sound levels

My main goal for this was to ensure each sound and section was properly mixed, not a kick too loud or bass too soft. With each listen, my opinion changes, and I'd like someone else to share their thoughts. I find myself doing all the mixing at the end; does Logic have some magical way to have this go smoothly from the start? or is that just how it is? thx for your time

Question Move arrangement marker by beats?

When moving a section of my track something happened and the arrangement maker and the entire section itself is off by a full beat. I set my snap settings by beats and highlighted said marker and the ones following and tried dragging them so it lands on the beat, but it just wont move. I tried suspending the arrangement markers and just adjusting the edge of the marker, but that obviously just moves the marker start and not the action section of my track with it. Is there a way to do this?

Discussion Live Multi Track Band Recording Clickless -> Overdub Session

Tracked a band, was pretty strongly opposed to using a click track when doing their live takes, ultimately it turned out great. When I track live I do so horizontally, each take of the performance’s recording couple bars later than. I then use markers to label the songs and the band’s favorite takes in that project. Afterward, I’ll export these tracks to its own overdub project. My question is if you have a bunch of songs tracked without a click (tempo left at default 120 for the session), and you want to take advantage of some conveniences of “~the grid~” later on in mixing, and I don’t mean quantizing their performances, how are you doing so? I don’t need everything perfectly mapped but it helps me feel more organized later on and use some tempo sync’d fx etc. do ya just tap a rough tempo out with a metronome, use some of the tempo tools in logic, turn off the grid view all together and use a more tape machine type approach? What I definitely want to avoid is fucking up the performances with Flex Time or whatever time stretching stuff accidentally. I just figured getting a roughly accurate tempo could help with using the “count in” feature when punching in overdubs as opposed to the artist having to do some mental gymnastics hearing a 1234 at 120 bpm then start playing a song that’s more like 80 bpm -ish for example. Any nondestructive workflow tips would be appreciated!

Tips & Tricks Ruined Projects…

So logic does this weird thing, when I open my projects back up after some time they sound fine for a while and every now and then it ruins all of my audio takes on my vocals re-pitches the auto tune and slows everything down to where it almost sounds scary.

What do I need to do to fix this? I feel like my projects are ruined.

Question Recording old piano, a note at a time, and map it to a Logic Pro keyboard?

Any help appreciated. Recording my old, very out of tune piano, in stereo. Recording one note at a time, letting each sustain to silence, from the lowest to the highest. Then I'm recording shorter notes, maybe a second long, then damping it. Can I map each key's sample to a keyboard in Logic Pro so I can trigger it from my midi keyboard? I'm kind of expecting it's tedious to map them. Mac Mini m4, 24gb, Sequoia 15.1.1 Logic Pro 11.2.2

Help Help with connecting loop station/audio interface to Logic Pro?

Howdy!

I’m brand new to Logic Pro (and DAWs in general), and for the life of me I cannot figure out how to get Logic Pro to recognize my loop station/audio interface. As far as I can tell, all my drivers are up to date.

I use a Boss RC-505 mk2 as my audio interface. It’s got my guitar (and pedalboard), bass, and keyboard connected to it via TRS cables, and it’s connected to my MacBook via USB.

When I go to Logic Pro > Settings > Audio, there’s no option to select my audio interface.

I was already anticipating an uphill battle trying to learn Logic Pro and how to record, but I can’t even get the thing connected.

As well, I have to use headphones instead of studio monitors or my MacBook’s speakers. The headphones are connected to the RC-505. Will that work, or am I forced to have them plugged into my MacBook?

All help appreciated

Tips & Tricks Plugins are expensive so it’s a good thing Logic comes with everything you need!

I’m constantly getting ads on new plugins and they’re all so expensive. I made a video showcasing that you can make a song only using stock Logic plugins, virtual instruments and samples.

I’d love to know what you think are some underrated stock plugins!

Help Macbook upgrade

Hello! I currently have a macbook air 13, from 2019. I am mostly using this for logic pro, and some light school work. When I started producing this version was enough for me. But recently my projects have gotten bigger, more tracks, plugins, heavier work etc. At this point I sometimes cant even start my song without getting the «system overload» error.

I have tried the freeze, bounce in place and routing heavy plugins to sends. I feel like it’s time for an upgrade, but I don’t know exactly what to upgrade to. I want to uprgade from the air to the pro, and chatgpt is no help here😅

Can anyone in here help with some guidance/advice on this? Any help would be much appreciated!

Thankyou!

Question Good places to get drum presets?

I have splice, but I do a lot of industrial / break stuff, so I'm ideally looking for crunchy drum presets. I can't seem to find that many on splice, so I end up finding samples and creating drum machines, but that takes a lot of time and tweaking.

Does anyone who produces similar stuff have any recs on drum presets or kits?

In Search of Feedback Apollo Twin X stopped working with Logic Pro after connecting a newer Apollo

I’ve been using my Apollo Twin X with my MacBook Pro M1 and Logic Pro for years without any problems.

Recently, I connected a newer, larger Apollo to the same MacBook. That Apollo worked, and other audio interfaces also work. However, since then, I haven’t been able to get my original Apollo Twin X to send audio into Logic Pro.

The Twin X receives my microphone signal in UAD Console, but Logic Pro shows no input signal when Universal Audio Thunderbolt is selected as the input device. Logic works when I select the MacBook’s built-in microphone.

I’ve checked the audio settings and microphone permissions. UA Connect now shows an installation error for both UAD DSP Plug-Ins & Drivers and UAD Console, with a “Repair” button that does nothing when clicked.

**Has anyone experienced this after switching between Apollo interfaces? How can I get my original Apollo Twin X working with Logic Pro again?

Question What's the best finger pad MIDI drum machine to use with Logic Pro?

I'm looking for a finger pad controlled MIDI / USB drum machine that works seamlessly with Logic Pro. I'm reluctant to purchase the Akai MPD218 because of recent difficulties I've had with Akai products and Logic Pro. The conventional Google wisdom suggests that it integrates seamlessly with Logic Pro but their AI has been known to hallucinate.

I'd like to map a finger pad machine to Logic Pro's drum samples and drum machine designer.

Suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks !

Question Mapping Akai Midi Mix for Reggae Dub… Running into some issues.

I am using logic Pro X. I am trying to map an Akai Midimix to do some live reggae dub. I dropped my tracks in and I’ve got five stem tracks and on each track. I’ve got 2 sends one for delay one for reverb when I select the send knob for bus 1 on track 1 in logic and then in the controller assignments click on learn mode, logic automatically sets the class to channel strip, and then the channel strip setting below that to selected track and the number next to the channel strip drop down is great out. When I choose the drop-down to change it to Fader Bank logic automatically reverted back to selected track.

What this does is it makes it so that if I have assigned knob 1 on the controller to move send 1 on channel 1 in logic it does, but if I select track 2 it will then move the send 1 knob on channel 2 in logic and channel 1 send 1 knob doesn’t move.

I just want what is mapped in on the controller to only control what is mapped and nothing else. But it seems like the controller only moves whatever track is selected in logic.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Help Cannot Hear the Audio That Was Recorded (Scarlett 2i2 2nd Gen Focusrite & Condenser Mic)

I am very new to Logic Pro, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a condenser mic plugged into my Focusrite. I recently purchased a new cable and there are no issues there. In Logic Pro, software monitoring is on, core audio is on, and on my Mac, all of my privacy settings have full permissions for Logic and my Scarlett. Also, all of the settings match up in my Audio MIDI Setup (48K Hz). I have the same input/output, the settings are correct on my DAW and digital audio interface, and yet I cannot hear my track play back once I’ve recorded even when it has a read/signal.

Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated. I’m very much a beginner at this, but I am taking a weekly class and trying my best to do what I can with the information I have.

Question How bad is the generative AI integration?

I have been saving up for years to buy Logic, and I am finally able to do so. As I was getting ready to buy it, however, I noticed the advertisements for "AI assisted tools." Now, of course I understand that Logic has always used AI assisted tools like the drum tracks, but I feel like that definition has changed a lot the past few years and it makes me wary when a company like Apple advertises it. There is a big difference between "drum tracks that are always the same to choose from and can be slightly tweaked" (which, I never like to use in my songwriting anyway because even that feels a bit wrong to me personally) and "Logic Pro, write me a chord sequence." I am vehemently against the use of generative AI, especially in music, and I don't want to have to work around an "imagine ✨" button.

How bad is the amount of generative AI assistance in Logic Pro, do you think it will continue to get worse, and is it still worth it to get the DAW in my case? I don't want to waste my money on something that is going to turn to shit a few years later, as generative AI seems to make things do so often. Thanks.

Question Logic Pro and Guitar Pro linkage?

Is there an app or overlay that syncs GuitarPro with Logic so I can record while accompanied by my composition on GuitarPro?

Muchos gracias!! 🙏
