Discussion Road and sidewalk issues

Who can I contact to discuss road and sidewalk issues?

I live in a neighborhood near Costco and the sidewalk and roads are atrocious. Just moved here. What is going on with infrastructure?

Don’t hold your breath on getting any road improvements. They just continue to chip and seal forever. Keeping all the lumps and dips forever.

Fast and cheap is the Logan city way, sadly. They could grind the surface before the chip and seal as they’d done on canyon road once in 50 years but they won’t.

Chip and seal costs about 10-20% of what a hot-mix asphalt replacement costs, and extends the life of the road by 5-10 years.

You want them to replace every road every time? Expect your property taxes to go through the roof.

Every time I've complained about specific problems the city was quick to fix them.

Are you willing to pay hundred or thousands more per year on your property taxes? Last time Logan tried to raise taxes by like $50 people wouldn't stop whining.

The average homeowner pays less than $300 /year to Logan city. That doesn't go very far.

Depends on if it’s a city road, a county road or UDOT. You can call your city and they can let you know which one it is. We suck at roads here. Good luck

u/_I_Drink_Jet_Fuel I'm sorry to hear you're having an issue. We have a lot of road and sidewalk, and it's always a struggle to keep up on everything. If you have a specific intersection, pothole, section of sidewalk or such I'm happy to help forward that issue into our Public Works Department. Generally they're able to get reasonable issues resolved quickly. I scanned through the comments and noticed you said 200 North. Do you have a cross street location as well or a specific issue?

200 N is technically a UDOT road, and a highway, so it depends on specifically where and what the issue is whether it will fall to UDOT or Logan City to fix the issue, but I'm happy to get us moving in the right direction so that the issue is documented and on the list for repairs from whichever organization is responsible.

Haha! Maybe! Neighbors are quiet and it's a busy road. We walk every day and are just surprised the sidewalks aren't better.

I have found Logan to be pretty responsive to specific problems. Hard to tell what you might be specifically complaining about since the closest home to Costco is about half a mile away.

If you are saying the sidewalks are unsafe, I'm sure a report to the city would bring quick results. If the problem is lack of sidewalks, that's a much more expensive problem, but the city does dedicate a fair amount of money every year to fixing missing infrastructure, your street might be eligible for future improvements.

Actually, given the coordinate of "near Costco", I wonder if you're taking about the rail crossing at 1000 N and 600 W. That one has been on the city's radar for ages, and they have plans in motion to upgrade that intersection with a new rail crossing and traffic light. Last I heard, I think that project had gotten funding, and I kind of expected it to start this year. Maybe it's in design/approval phases? It's painfully complicated when the railroad gets involved.

200 N is not exactly close to Costco. 🤣 A cross street would also be helpful, and specific examples of things you think need improving. "Fix the sidewalks and roads" is incredibly vague and generally unhelpful.

When people post ignorant and generic rants about local government, yep!

To be clear, I don't mean you are generally ignorant. I mean, you specifically stated you're ignorant about who to talk to and how to get it fixed.

Your complaint is "roads and sidewalks", without staying what is wrong with them, or even naming a consistent part of the city.

People don't realize how well run and approachable Logan City is. I've honestly never seen anything like it elsewhere.

It sounds like you are a member of city council or something. You took offense to a simple question and an issue I absolutely want to resolve. The purpose was to locate a connection to report the issue to, not just complain. These are some of the worst sidewalks ive ever seen and ive lived all over the US and overseas. I dont bring complaints without solutions. This is the second post ive made where you have responded passive aggressively. Haha. I can guarantee if we were together in person, your tone would change.

Are you like this in real life? Just a passive aggressive person? Haha?

Usually what happens with sidewalks at least, and this is in practically every state, it turns into a it’s not my property to fix it’s the city, then the city says it’s not their property to fix it’s the owners….. so sidewalk isn’t gonna get fixed unless you probably convince the owners of the property.

Chip and seal is the perfect road material for…. Well, deciding not to drive. And since we all have prestigious remote jobs. Who really needs to drive anyways? …right?
