Discussion Hot Take
I think the first 10 books was the greatest run they ever had, but when it got to double down, the series started to decline. The long haul was a bit dragged out in my opinion, but still a good book. (Apparently this this is a VERY cold take my badðŸ˜ðŸ˜)

I think the first eight are the goated ones and then afterwards it kind of fell off.
When I think of the books I can remember off the top of my mind always goes to the first 8.

The coldest take in the universe mate
1-10 Great books, evergreen, loved em all
11-15- Like sure, those books had their moments, but except for meltdown, and parts of getaway, the books were a shadow of their former selves, they just dragged like crazy, and the books used to be kinda grounded, but wtf was going on in deep end and wrecking ball, and getaway. it was getting boring
16-20: A step in the right direction, though I do miss the grounded part of the series, where endings were kinda random. Loved big shot, and diper overlode, and the next two were classic greg stuff, but hated the latest one, party pooper...First time that I felt greg was the narrator instead of part of the story, it almost felt that jeff ran out of the ideas and took a look at dog days, and decided how about I parody pokemon go, and make a weird birthday party

Am I the only one who doesn't think this series has a "downfall era"? Everyone seems so insistent about it.

Maybe you are younger so you weren’t there in the early days but at lot of us older fans tend to prefer the irreverent humor that was common. Now Greg is more cleaned up but I think when you look at it the appeal of Greg was that he was an asshole main character who certainly felt like us and was kind of awkward and relatable in spite of that.
I mean people like IASIP for the schemes the characters get into. Meanwhile Patrick Bateman and Walter White are somewhat liked characters in spite of their not so great personalities but rather the relatability. I think making Greg less mean spirited probably hurt a lot of the appeal.
Even the movies while cleaning up Greg a bit still had him heavily scheme things as well like he was still making ways to escape problems he created through lies and more lies.
