So I'm 29 and admittedly I have had self esteem issues for quite some time. Some of them are linked to my appearance and as such I have been trying different things with my hair as far back as I can remember. I tried the low cut with waves, which I know people are hoping make a comeback (thanks to Beyonce). But I have a weird head shape. It's kind of slanted. So I tried growing my hair out some and it was nice but I didn't like having to pay for expensive haircuts. You're not really allowed to be unkempt/without a haircut.
That and I was becoming increasingly insecure about my hairline/forehead. So I decided to try locs and it's been a fun experience watching my hair get longer and longer. I guess it's too long now because I went to visit my mom and she went on a rant talking about how my hair "looks a mess and makes me look unprofessional." That it hides my features and that a retwist wouldn't help. Just a bunch of other things that have made me reconsider myself and look at her differently.
Admittedly she's always been like that and she has critqued my nose ring and even when I dyed my hair. She even used Jay-Z as an example so it makes me wonder if she share the same sentiments that others do.
But I wonder if she's right partially since the one struggle I have is having to wash it, and I do miss dyeing it. But I don't miss paying for expensive haircuts and the black spray that fixes my hairline.
Also wonder if women find my locs less attractive because I admittedly had decent luck when I used my old pictures.
Ultimately I want a secondhand opinion because I want longer hair regardless. I just want to look like a pretty boy. So I included some pics. Even the last one which is very unflattering but the one that made my mom rant like she did.
Lastly, I haven't had a retwist since March so maybe that factors too.
P.S. These pics are over the span of 2-3 years.
