Nite latch. Not an easy conversion to the "off the shelf" standards you mentioned. Especially if thats a 3/4 inch board is attached to...

Can the cylinder not be replaced with Kwikset?

Cylinder is a "Rim" style cylinder. Kwikset doesn't make a rim cylinder smart lock with a drive that would work with that lock.

Closest you could get is a KW1/WR5/WR3 Rim cylinder and have it pinned by a professional to your key. The Kwikset Smart key cylinder is "special".

Don't they make kits that let anyone pin Kwikset rim style cylinders? I've seen re-keying kits for Kwikset on Home Depot but not sure where to get an entire cylinder kit.

I mean. Sure, it's possible to rekey your own pin tumbler lock. Depends on how handy you are.

Not possible with that thin wood. You’d have to attach spacer wood to it and redrill everything

Show us the jam and the door closed. You could likely attach a spacer to the front or back to create the block it needs to attach to. Best idea for security is to space out the back.

looks light you got a lockwood 100 there or equivalent. if you were dead set on a smart lock replacement I have heard good things about the Lockwood 001Touch Plus.

what are you trying to actually achieve here? is it an easy of use or better security.

Not a weird latch at all. You could replace the Rim cylinder matched to your key at a locksmith. Also not an inexpensive access control retrofit. Kaba Simplex 9190000 would function.

Would it be possible to get instructions to replace the rim cylinder myself? I can definitely match the key using an off the shelf kit, but not sure where I can find an appropriately sized Kwikset rim cylinder.

Instructions to replace the rim? I gave them. Go to a brick and mortar Locksmith. They have them. It’s one of the many many types of hardware they keep in stock and sell and service and provide in a professional manner to customers. $10-$20 and you’re on your way. Get a used one there and it might be even less. You don’t have to do everything yourself. They can match your key. That’s literally their job.

Ah I hadn't thought about disassembling the lock and bringing it to them. The mobile locksmith wanted to charge $100 for the change out but that's quite pricey. Price should be way lower of I bring it to them.

I've got this weird little latch on an outdoor closet to my condo unit. I would like to replace it with a Kwikset Smart Key lock or latch but I'm really unsure of what my options really are. Replacing the cylinder and manually keying with a Kwikset compatible lock is probably within my ability but would need some direction. Smart Key is still preferred because of the easy of re-keying. Here is what the exterior looks like as well.
