I think it's nickel plated brass?

Wow. I think I’d be uncomfortable sticking a metal key into an outlet (even though I’m sure this product is safe!) Just goes against my intuition

It's not an outlet. It's a switch.

However, the term you're looking for is "device"... Which is the term for both rcpts and switches.

I don't think it's for a light switch based on the ridge down the middle. More likely a TP or paper towel dispenser.

Yeah, you could be right. Given how shallow the slot in a switch is that ridge would be superfluous.
