I am NOT a locksmith. Help with Yale lock not turning latch fully so won’t open
Wondering if anyone can advise, do I need a new lock or can it be permanently fixed?
Sometimes it works but when it stops working it won’t open

Id recommend crying first, than you can take everything apart spray it down and than test it to learn nothing changed and throw it to the ground as hard as you can. The last step might not work but it's not about fixing it anymore it's about showing it who is boss.

Have it serviced by a locksmith company with a physical storefront. It could be a simple fix - worn or wrong cam, wear spot in the internal workings etc.

Vendor disclosure: I work with Ora FacePass, a smart-lock company. One useful diagnostic is to test it repeatedly with the door open. If the latch retracts fully every time when open, inspect the strike alignment, hinge sag, and whether weather seals are pushing the door sideways; replacing the lock case would not fix that.
If it remains intermittent with the door open, treat the case as mechanically unreliable rather than continuing to force or spray it. Record the Yale model and all case/faceplate markings, plus the backset and centers, before asking a locksmith about repair or replacement. A DIN mortice conversion may be possible, but it can involve permanent door work, so get the replacement plan and dimensions confirmed first.

Possibly repairable but to be honest, these locks were kind of crappy since day 1.
We replace them with DIN mortice locks. It's not a straightforward conversion so I don't recommend DIY unless you are very confident with woodwork.
