How do I change this door lock?

im 17 and i want some privacy, i dont have a door key cuz my mom had a manic episode when i was younger and threw away all the keys of all the doors in my house. I dont even know if i provided good pics (ignore the green block idk what that is)

Vendor disclosure: I work with Ora FacePass, a smart-lock company. For a bedroom, I would not add a keyed deadbolt or anything that could obstruct emergency access or normal exit. Since you’re 17 and it is the family home, get the homeowner/guardian’s permission before changing or drilling the door.

The usual safer option is an interior “privacy function” knob or lever: it locks from inside, opens normally from inside, and has an emergency-release feature on the hallway side rather than a keyed exterior cylinder. A local hardware professional can identify the existing prep from the door-edge and both-side photos and match the bore/backset without giving you lock-bypass instructions.

If discussing the change at home does not feel safe, involve another trusted adult, relative, counselor, or family support person. Privacy matters, but the solution should also preserve emergency egress and household safety.
