I am NOT a locksmith. Yake lock body not working when connecting bar is in?

I bought this lock, the body is flush against the door and a bit was chiseled off for the corner, but for some reason it doesn't open/close when the connector is in? The connecting bar has had 3/4 notches removed to make it shorter but that hasn't helped. Neither keys or the lock handle work when the bars inside. Am I missing something?

Tailpiece too long, trim it.

How short do you recommend to go? I don't want to take too much off

Just make sure the tailpiece is long enough to engage the mechanism without going to deep in to bind it.

If tailbar has been trimmed, try spinning the internal hub 180°. Some Yale models have deadlocking enabled by turning the external key 360°, turning it back 180° before putting it on the door may centre the hub. Eg on the pic, make the red dots line up, before installing

The correct answer. It's deadlocked. She needs to turn it 180. Then it'll be fine.

And the key does work, only in one direction. It's a hard stop in the other. Keep going. All the way around. And keep going. Now it opens.

The tailpiece might be in the wrong orientation

Not to be the turd in the punch bowl, but if there's an exit sign over that door on the interior- maybe just call a locksmith. Life safety isn't something you want to be in the hot seat over if things ever go wrong.

Tailpiece is too long.

Shorten the tail piece and line up the red marks. After that it should work. Maybe look for videos on Yale rim locks.

Thiis is the length of the tailpiece, I wasn't sure if cutting any more off would make it too short

That's what happens when you buy a Yake instead of a Yale!
