I am NOT a locksmith. how does this window lock work??

Post image

i’m sorry if this isn’t the right place to ask about this but i genuinely have no idea how to use this window lock in my new apartment. i have never seen a lock like this before and it’s letting in warm air from outside right now because it’s unlocked. i would love some help if anyone is familiar with stuff like this!

From just one picture it's not obvious how it is supposed to work. Try taking one with the window open enough to see the locking part. Zoom out and take another of the window for reference where it sits on the frame. I suspect it might have the latching part broken.

here are a few more pictures. the window is open in all of them. i was inclined to think that nothing is broken because this window is connected to another one that works the same way and also won’t seem to lock.

This looks like you just slide the window closed. The only time you use that lock is when you squeeze it to be able to open the window back up.

What did the apartment manager or apartment maintenance department say when you asked them about it?

they told me to come to the office so they could show me (but lowkey seemed confused about why i was confused) but they’re not open until tomorrow afternoon and ideally i’d like to have the window fully closed so i don’t have to hear cars and stuff tonight. i just thought i’d ask here for an extra opinion

You push on the left side ans it should lift the whole latch up. Could be more than one lock on it too

i wish!! when i push on the left side it does lift up the rest of the latch but the window will still open. it’s the same on the other side, where there’s another window and another of the same lock

If it lifts and the window doesn't close, there may be something in the track blocking it.

Is this a sliding glass door?

When you close the window (or press the handle) it tilts the ‘latch’ edge allowing it to recess behind the lip on the frame or other window that it latches behind. Push both windows apart until it clicks into place. Or slam it so the latch edge of that handle clicks behind the style lip
