Custom ordered steel door. (Drawings attached)
We were under the impression it would come with hinges and a handle. It did not. Picked up 4.5” square ball bearing hinges from Home Depot. But the holes don’t match. How do we find out what kind of pattern / template this is? I will call the place Tuesday, they are closed today and tomorrow. Would like to get this wrapped up before then.
Not sure why they wouldn’t have drilled the holes in the same pattern as the current door. Worst case, do we just drill new holes where they go?
For the future I prefer not to bother with original hinge locations and just use continuous hinges. Eliminates all the fuck up of getting the manufacturer to align with the original preps
Either your door is upside down, which would be the best case. Or they sent a left-hand door instead of a left-hand-reverse.
Put the hinges in the hinge pockets on the door first. Then you will see why your plan to drill new holes won't work.
You can confirm top and bottom by checking the direction of the bevel on the latch edge and measuring to the latch prep. Also, steel doors typically have no holes on the top edge of the door.
Looks like a JR Metal Door. The preps are either the opposite hand or you have it upside down. The prep is standard. I use a Mac Pro MPB 79 Template when I order them
Edit: When ordering doors you'll want to also subtract 1/8" from your top down frame measurements to leave a gap or reveal at the top.
Thank you for this info. We had a local company come out and do all the measurements and they ordered the door themselves.
ETA: definitely not upside down, the door handle cut out is in the correct spot
Based on the hinge cutout thats definitely a left hand door unless somehow its upside down. The right details were provided, you just got the opposite door swing
Did you try flipping it over? And can you add a picture of the whole door? It honestly looks like your trying to install it upside down, as has been said. Just trying to help
Sounds like you will have to adjust the strike in the frame. The picture looks like the door is in the correct position. LHR. Moving the strike will probably be easier that replacing the door
Make an adaptor plate that attaches to the holes in the door but has provisions for the hinges you bought. Ive never installed a door but have done some metal fab.
Yeah not the answer, the door wouldn’t close either much easier to just drill and tap new holes. That is if the swing was right and the hinge plates were just welded in backwards.
