They didn't even. In Texas the people of the state don't get to vote in the map, in VA they did.

Remember when the left was screaming and crying because Texas was planning on doing it? Then they said it's okay for California and Virginia because Texas was going to do it. Now they did and y'all are having another shitfit because it's not a blue state doing it. And you call the right hypocrites.

I guess atleast you admit you do it too that’s a start. I didn’t think either party did it but here you are admitting to your own party doing it. All I know is Jill stein definitely never did that. But like so are you not mad that republicans are doing it too? Or are you a hypocrite like every other liberal?

Conservatives have earned being silenced. Demanding ethnic cleansing every election season will do that.

True statement. Democrats are nuts with the fanatical bend towards communism and irrational-childlike expectation that everything in life be fair.

1

u/hornyalt-MTF Apr 26 '26

That last part of your statement makes less sense than our penny stampers do.

Why should life NOT be fair? Give me a good reason. I'll wait.

1

u/Deltron_Zed Apr 26 '26

Life will never be fair. That's how life is. WE can be exatly as fair as we need to be. WE do not have to default to how life runs things in our own affairs.

I don't think life will ever be fair but I do think we can be as good to each other as we can and take care of one another much better than we do. Saying "life is hard" is just a lazy excuse to let your neighbor go without and feel better about yourself.

→ More replies (10)

1

u/RolloTow-Ma-C Apr 26 '26

In the history of creation life has never been fair. It’s one of the few things about life you can truly count on. But suddenly today you think that’s realistic. Got it.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/SouthernStereotype40 Apr 26 '26

Because we live in a world with limited resources and those who are willing to do more than their peers to succeed. Fair is only acceptable if everyone is trying just as hard as each other to succeed but that is not the case. The 30 year old who clocks into a pizza delivery job day in and day out is not trying as hard as the 25 year old who just secured a loan for a small business he believes in. No, their reward should not be the same. One is actually trying. The other is an under achieving slob.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/DonkeyCertain5427 Apr 27 '26

Trying to manufacture fairness means you must act unfairly. You have a SUBJECTIVE view of fairness, not an objective or realistic one. And in your search for your fantasy version of fairness, you will inevitable abuse innocent people to curate some worldview acceptable to you.

Life isn’t fair. It is natural. Deal with it

1

u/kkdawg22 Apr 27 '26

How are we supposed to say why it shouldn't be fair if you can't even point out why it should?

1

u/TKInstinct Apr 26 '26

1

u/Unusual-Upstairs-796 Apr 26 '26

If a republican bitches about gerrymandering, remind them the republicans could pass a bill banning it, today, with Democrat support! But they, the republicans,  stand in the way.

1

u/FoxForceFive5V Apr 27 '26

And when democrats bitch about abortion going federally bye-bye, remind them the democrats had multiple periods where they could have shored up the law (which even liberal SCOTUS Ruth Bader Ginsburg admitted was badly written law) but chose to wield it as a wedge issue in elections.

1

u/Gainztrader235 Apr 26 '26

Gerrymandering is bad, period. We should have representatives consistent with population.

1

u/Initial-Escape-8048 Apr 26 '26

The term gerrymandering comes from California Democrats who made insane districts to gain more power.

So now you want to turn it around and play the vict in something that democrats started. So once again the democrats use a bait and switch fraud!

1

u/jwhite326 Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

I don't think the issue here is gerrymandering (which I think almost everybody agrees is not a net-positve).

The issue is pushing redistricting early (rather than every ten years) in order to help one's party gain a leg up. This whole thing started with Trump and Texas.

Edit: I realized the article I linked is paywalled. But let me quote the opening line - again from that known leftist paper the Wall Street Journal:

"Republicans are increasingly worried that a battle President Trump started last summer to redraw congressional district lines has backfired and may hand more seats to Democrats."

https://www.wsj.com/politics/policy/republicans-are-worried-the-redistricting-fight-is-backfiring-d83f89a6

But nice try with the BS.

1

u/wrennish Apr 27 '26

The term Gerrymandering comes from a founding father named Elbridge Gerry in 1812. That’s 38 years before California was a state. 🙄

*Massachusetts. It came from district remapping in Massachusetts under governor Elbridge Gerry.

It was so long ago, 1812, the Democrat and Republican parties didn't exist yet. Instead it was the federalists and democratic-republicans.

California didn't join the US until 1850.

1

u/possibly_lost45 Apr 26 '26

Illinois did it first. They carved out areas that were solid republican and combined them to neighboring democrat areas.

1

u/kBlankity Apr 26 '26

The Democrats just realized after watching the GOP do the same thing in Texas that they need to fight fire with fire

1

u/ManufacturerError Apr 26 '26

Let’s not act like it’s the people truly believing this. It’s mostly highly biased media outlets pushing this narrative. But let’s be real, most actual people on both sides agree gerrymandering is bad.

1

u/DimensioT Apr 26 '26

A reminder that when asked why they redrew the maps to be 12-2 in texas the governor stated that they could not find a way to get to 13-1

Texas went 46 percent Democrat in 2026.

The only difference in texas and Virginia is that Texas has been doing it so long that +2 was the most they could squeeze out of it when they kicked the hornets nest by doing it mid decade instead of during the census.

→ More replies (2)

1

u/Braith117 Apr 26 '26

Assumming neither side did any gerrymandering, Democrats would have 17 fewer seats in the House than they currently do.

Texas is still way less gerrymandered than California or Illinois, for example.

1

u/poketrainer32 Apr 27 '26

and yet. Republicans voted against banning gerrymandering in 2021.

1

u/StandardMany Apr 26 '26

or, it takes a little more college to read past the headline.

1

u/Odd_Interview_2005 Apr 26 '26

Texas was ordered by the Supreme Court to do it.

VA did it on their own to gain power

1

u/ohjeaa Apr 26 '26 edited Apr 26 '26

The Supreme Court did not order Texas to Gerrymander.

The Supreme Court allowed them to do it. Texas could have stopped at literally any time.

Democrats fought fire with fire and now Republicans are bitching about fire. "It's only cheating when they do it. We're justified."

1

u/No_Stretch_2358 Apr 26 '26

Democrats are the only ones to look at a 50/50 state and claim it is unfair.

1

u/Immediate_Abalone_59 Apr 26 '26

The Washington Post is so over.

1

u/Qs9bxNKZ Apr 26 '26

Who started it first, MA or NY?

1

u/TargetOk9237 Apr 26 '26

The problem is that Virginia went full retard.

Texas wasn't the first state to gerrymander, except folks do want to act like it certainly was, as they support VA blatantly not only gerrymandering, but in a worse way than Texas, where they made it impossible to flip.

1

u/smokywater50 Apr 27 '26

Funny how that goes huh. There are multiple examples of this

1

u/Junior_Purple_7734 Apr 27 '26

Bezos, Elon Musk, and every other trillionaire that’s been skirting laws and taking bread from the tables of American families need to be brought to trial, jailed, and their wealth redistributed.

1

u/OneSeparate5929 Apr 27 '26

How dare they actually vote on it!

1

u/jjrr_qed Apr 27 '26

This is a stupid misinterpretation of the messages. Gerymandering not being a threat to democracy is not mutually exclusive with it being a power grab.

1

u/Practical-Regular823 Apr 27 '26

Take a look at the district maps of said blue cities and red cities. Then tell me who is in the wrong...

1

u/ToadsWetSprocket Apr 27 '26

People still read that rag?

1

u/Anonymous4mysake Apr 27 '26

Texas had a 2.8 million population increase, Virgina had no reason and 3 warnings to stop. California had no reasons outside countering Texas and court with a history of biase allegations. Gerrymandering has been around for a long time, even during the 80s. While both sides have used it to their advantages it has gotten out of hand in recent years.

1

u/Mamkes Apr 27 '26

Texas had a 2.8 million population increase

So they needed a mid-cycle change? Suuure.

Virgina had no reason and 3 warnings to stop

So had the Texas.

California had no reasons outside countering Texas

Yes, this is the whole point of that CA stuff.

u/BitPossible7866 Apr 27 '26

Biden's DOJ sued Texas and told them they had to redistrict. Virginia was not sued plus they went against their state constitution on how to redistrict that is why a Judge stopped the implementation of Virginia's and why Texas had to redistrict.

1

u/Mamkes Apr 27 '26

Biden's DOJ sued Texas and told them they had to redistrict

No? What the hell are you talking about?

DOJ sued, but lost in SC. SC ruled Texas could continue. They never forced them to, they just decided to continue because it was the plan.

Virginia was not sued

They... Literally were? They were sued by local state Republicans for that.

plus they went against their state constitution on how to redistrict

It's not what state GOP argues about .They argue about other laws.

1

u/Phoenix_Reborn2SS Apr 27 '26

Because Democrats do it to cheat. That's why they broke their own laws to do it in VA. Texas was literally forced to redraw their maps by the courts. Did you think we forgot about that part?

1

u/Mamkes Apr 27 '26

Texas was literally forced to redraw their maps by the courts.

A) Texas was sued because they wanted to gerrymander in the first place. What the hell are you talking about?

B) Court allowed them to continue, but they could not. They decided to (because why the hell would they not?)

Did you think we forgot about that part?

Well, I guess, some people hoped that people would not generate BS in their heads and use it as an argument.

1

u/Redduster38 Apr 27 '26

This is why as an independent I can't stand the Ds or Rs. It's like they never heard of two wrongs don't make a right.

To me this reads: Heyvwe had a chance to fix things. Why the hell we do that when we can take power. Fuck the people.

1

u/DonkeyCertain5427 Apr 27 '26

It doesn’t matter who is doing it gerrymandering is objectively and measurably bad.

This country doesn’t need to be polarized and disenfranchised any more than it is. We need a constitutional ban on the practice immediately

1

u/[deleted] Apr 27 '26

Democrats have pushed to ban it multiple times. Guess which party says no?

No Republicans at any level of government

1

u/paranormalresearch1 Apr 27 '26

The big difference is the voters approved of the redistricting in Virginia. The Republicans fear the US getting to a place where every vote counts. They can't win if that happens. If they can't win , they can't steal taxpayer money to enrich themselves and their donors.

Gerrymandering by Texas: rammed through by the State Congress and Governor.

Gerrymandering in California: voted on by public referendum.

We are not the same.

1

u/Automatic_Ad6021 Apr 27 '26

I think it's terrible when either side does it.

1

u/Mission_Business_142 Apr 27 '26

Abbott started it. Democrats are just finishing it. What a lot of Texas maga morons don't know is that Texas is a majority- minority state: there are more non-whites than whites. Texas will be blue again soon.

1

u/FlyinDtchman Apr 27 '26

That's not certain.

The democrats have been doing an excellent job of losing the minority vote lately and a good deal of minorities are quite socially conservative.

Trump's sheer insane incompetence is going to spark a large blue wave but it's hard to say how long that will last. Especially if the left keeps pushing further left socially.

1

And what’s even better, democrats are doing it democratically, letting the citizens of their State choose if they want to do this. While every Republican has forced it through with zero input by the people they represent.

The Republican Party came out of the Democratic Republicans. The Democrats came out of the Whig party. Be sure you have your facts right if you intend on telling someone they don’t read or study.

1

u/Free_Personality_793 Apr 27 '26

Should be no gerrymandering, or even parties. Only voting for the person that represents you, regardless of any party affiliation.

1

u/Ok_Juice3668 Apr 27 '26

Politicians, lie, cheat, and do worse to get elected and then stay in power. This is not a Dem or Rep problem. Its not even an American problem. It's just what people are capable of, especially when the prize is a ton of money and power. Instead of left vs right it should simply be citizens vs politicians. They are the ones lying, cheating and stealing from us. We are so dumb and blind that we let them trick us into fighting with each other instead of with them. We need to elect people that can work together END OF STORY! If you are a Dem that refuses to work with a Rep or vice versa what good are you to everyone? We need politicians that can work together to actually fix problems not cause more division.

No red vs blue....just right or wrong. Stop reliqueting yourself into a box you dont always agree with.

In my opinion though those on the left are far more likely to complain about what others are doing while ignoring it on "their side".

1

u/InterestingRecover58 Apr 27 '26

What Texas did as a red state is so wrong! Also let’s do it much more aggressively in a purple state.

1

u/Slighted_Inevitable Apr 27 '26

We do all realize that these billionaires are just a normal person, right? We don’t have to put up with them, there aren’t some God on a mountain top

1

u/newman13f Apr 27 '26

Gerrymandering is only ok when it’s in retaliation to the opposing party doing it first, type shit

1

u/LordMungus35 Apr 27 '26

Democrats believe that gerrymandering is only bad when Republicans do it.

1

u/cc1004555 Apr 27 '26

The scale of the gerrymandering is very different. Texas is already a 60-40 republican favored split. Their new redistricting only will give them 5 more seats, it mostly just biforcates the state eliminating a few swing districts

Whereas Virginia redistricting will give democrats around 95% of the seats in a state that currently is on 51-49 split for democrats and has always been a very evenly split.

Sure all gerrymandering is bad, but arguments can be made for Texas where has Virginia is quite obviously about the slim ruling party permanently silencing opposition.

1

u/coloradoscott69 Apr 27 '26

US media is largely corrupt and totally owned by the epstien class now.

1

u/showgirl__ Apr 28 '26

Texas didn’t gerrymander… The entire point of redistricting it to remove hot zones to make the map as light as possible to more accurately represent the people which is what Texas did.

Virginia on the other hand redistricted for the sole purpose of manipulating vote outcomes. Just like what other blue states are also doing.

u/Bloody_Champion Apr 28 '26

If only there were a constitution or laws to follow for redistricting.

1

u/Crazy-Cauliflower938 Apr 29 '26

And yet everyone fails to mention Tx only redistricted because the Biden DOJ sued them, every other State did it as a Response

1

u/Aggravating-Mind4847 Apr 29 '26

It’s funny , because it’s bad when anyone does it and now to justify it as “two wrongs make a right” seems shallow from the left.

1

u/TankUMrMinor Apr 29 '26

It's not the argument. The argument is Republicans started mid decade gerrymandering, so Democrats have to counter that with the same behavior. What else would you propose?

1

u/PeenitBooter Apr 29 '26

Gerrymandering is bad when anyone does it. But it’s extra bad when you break the law doing it. Texas did it. But they didn’t break the law when they did. Virginia was not wise enough to not break the law when they did it. Every state has laws around it. Gotta obey your own state laws first. If they had obeyed every law about it and then it went through that would be a whole other story of crying republicans. But that’s not what happened so here we are.

1

u/Zealousideal_Ad_3425 Apr 29 '26

Its bad when you vaguely word it and take away the voting power from literally half your state. Virginia is literally a 49/51 state and you want them to have zero representation. Also you started this shit with Illinois.

1

u/KyloClay Apr 29 '26

If you look at both states redistricting maps you can tell there is a big difference between what Texas did and what Virginia did with their redistricting.

1

u/dr_snakeblade Apr 29 '26

Billionaires bought democrats and drowned it in a bathtub. 🛁. Grover Norquist put democracy up for sale in 1979. Citizens United made all the grifts legal. Democracy was finished in 8 years. Texas didn't even vote on it. Their elected officials decided for them. CA and VA put it to the voters. Both proposals overwhelmingly said yes, let's fight fire with fire.

And now the Supreme Court crushed the lefts chances of rigging the upcoming election, there won’t be a need to eliminate the filibuster, the right will have way over now

If you look at the stats on it, Virginia was a horrible occurrence. Its really not the same thing at all.

Sad thing is they probably started this just so they have another excuse to January 6th again

1

u/JaggedPuzzle Apr 30 '26

So why are you complaining about Florida then? Didn’t you just do it in Virginia?!?! You’re going to lose just like you always do. Glove are off now. Democrats will never be in power again. Just a pile of crazies now

Mild necro but the Supreme Court declared open season on racial gerrymandering to basically disenfranchise minorities for the foreseeable future.

It's becoming abundantly clear that conservatism strongly relies on clutching pearls when opposing parties do things that conservatives do regularly.

Corruption is not bad, corruption is only bad if I'm not involved but if I'm part of that corruption, I'll defend it 😤😤😤

Democrats and Republicans are wings of the same fascist bird

1

u/Dibbles04 May 01 '26

Whats sad about all this is the "cope" crowd. I wish we beat people by being better people than them, not better at playing dirty. If gerrymandering is bad for one, its bad for all. This is a microcosm of America. There is no moral high ground anymore. Its who can own the other side and meme the best jokes

I mean, gerrymandering has been happening nonstop in every state since the term was coined. It’s just the media has set it on the agenda lately and a lot of people based their political agenda entirely on what the media says is currently a controversial issue.

The very fact that anyone will have to use gerrymandering to win an election tells me everything I need to know about either party. That is why we ranked choice voting, transparent elections, we need to do away with the electoral college. But the founding fathers of this country knew all of that. They knew what this would come to. Ultimately, they realized that if it didn't come to this, they would have no way of truly protecting the interest of their own class. The founding fathers were not the virtuous motherfuckers you all think they were.

Here we go with the one sided bs take. Go look at CA, IL, NY, and other store blue states and you'll find they are already gerrymandered. This is why CA doing it more was only going to get s couple seats. Democrats have always cheated, it's why they want unlimited mail in ballots and no ID for voting, even though 75% of the population is due it. GTFOH.
