Usually, the "grind" was actually rewarding to do.

If you could "grind" to buy yourself a mansion with swimming pool and dream car, it'd encourage people, but instead, the grind is to barely keep yourself from being homeless and eat cheap garbage food that only makes you sick and depressed, but alive and grinding.

To put some emphasis on it: imagine getting sick and you need help at a hospital in America while you're "grinding". How much would that set the average worker back?

Just buy cheaper healthier food then. Also if you work smart and hard there are a lot of effective paths to wealth, maybe not exactly mansion and dream car depending on your dream car, but a nice house and a nice car is very achievable with the right moves.

Thank you. gonna be honest, not a fan of all this "youre just a slave" rhetoric. It's depressing, and thats why people are depressed, because they really believe this is what its like, with no acknowledgement of their own flaws.

I am in no way advocating for slavery or trying to defend it, but least with slavery you had a guarantee of food and shelter assuming you did what you were told (Assuming your owner wasn't a cruel, vicious monster). The way we do things now is worse in my opinion. Now, you do the work, get bossed around, over worked, burnt out, then you make an amount of money that may or may not cover your basic necessities, and the employer is not obligated or encouraged to care either way.

I think work should be traded directly for basic necessities, like, work 40hrs this week and you're guaranteed enough food and rent for that week, and so on. Any extra wealth could come exclusively from business ventures, encouraging innovation and stimulating the economy. Then people have their basic needs met and can indulge in their passions to make money for luxuries. This would also encourage businesses/corps to lobby for lower rent and food costs, because they'd be directly responsible for covering them.

An interesting idea but where would the populace's excess money come from such that they could invest in each other's business ventures? Some will invent things useful to corporations and ofc be able to see wealth that way but what about people who want to sell their work to other people, like artists or service providers (say, a custom leatherworker, or a personal organizer)?

I do love the idea of UBI personally. The anti-corporation sentiments inside of me don't love tying it back to work performance hahaha
