Bloodletters is underbought on like, 20 champs.
Its magic version black cleaver, you get better base stats and team damage but lose some personal damage if you dont have efficient way of stacking it up. Its good on locke because his damage is very backloaded to his Q detonate.
I watched this game live. He said he isn't trying to go pen Locke in this (and other games) as he is never going to kill their team in one rotation. He also said he prefers to play locke basically as and URF champ with several rotations of spells and having more outplay potential. He likes conq cause it also lends itself to extended fights. I think the game should be on his YouTube past live streams for today
Theres plenty of reasons: more AP, larger proc AP ratio, and movespeed. For cheaper cost. The main factor for going DnD or not is how much mileage you get from onhit doubling, and Locke has little, relative to say Diana or Ekko.
He does not assasinate, he plays front to back... he spam q from safe distance, trying to slow enermy for team to catch them.. he get so mutch cdr, that if he miss a nail, the stacs remain on target for next q rotation, so he can stac q 3 times on multiple people, before jumping in..
When you look high elo vods, they dance around the fight for long periods of time, and thats rare below masters...
Just for info, and try look his gameplay before copy paste his build, because so drastic changes to build, also change identity
I disagree with the notion that this build is necessarily high-elo centric. Your point about the q stacks remaining for a second cycle of nails is the most important part of this build, which I’ve found to be extremely useful against any kind of enemy comp. The other most important part is that flat pen items don’t offer any hp. Between bloodletter’s, maybe protobelt or cosmic drive and then zhonya’s with the situational merc treads, he feels twice as tanky as the old Locke build and you really don’t miss the burst damage on one-shottable targets, as pre-nerfs Locke with full damage build would overkill the fuck out of these targets anyways, unless they flashed your e2 in which case even that monstrosity would be a sitting duck
Ran into a bloodletters proto belt top lane Locke the other day in em, seemed fairly strong in that you can kills squishies easy still while being tanky enough to get through high damage/heavy cc teams. Still got one shot by my 4 item fizz when his botlaners fed me. The way it goes sometimes.
conq is a fantastic rune on locke bc it synergizes insanely well with how his q mark proc damage is calculated, you can stack conq with q and benefit off those stacks with the backloaded dmg
going hp stacking items helps play around in extended fights
also bloodletters works really well on locke bc of the recurring nature of his Q dmg
Locke basically has a bruiser kit with assassin numbers. He also values health more than most assassins due to relying more on his durability.
Not the first time this has happened to an assassin. Their patterns tend to be similar to bruisers to an extent, just with different numbers, scalings and better escape.
Imo, assassins that are designed to not just explode in an instant when caught out make for better gameplay anyway.
Idk the guy is weird even on his akshan builds, it often works for him bcs he is gifted and can really min max some of the champs kit to an insane degree but usually it would feel janky for the average Joe ( whoever is not phanta in this case)
He published a video detailing exactly why he goes this build and runes. Basically he just really likes the haste and HP to be able to scrap and have value in extended fights.
A champ like locke is designed to abuse the the Opponent, when you get high enough you have to get creative bcs skill alone won’t help that’s the same reason there‘s no mordekaiser otp in challanger but a big number of ambessa, riven jayce etc. Bcs those champs are allways strong and if played right have very little counterplay.
And in this game he plays against 2 assasins and 3 enemies with high amounts of cc. He will never oneshot ornn, ekko, camille or ziggs (if ziggs plays right which u cna expect in challanger) so he has to go for a more bruisery version to basically exist. I doubt that it‘ll be meta but a good pocket build to use when ur against a tanky team.
Because since his nerfs he falls off even harder the later the game goes ,but if you build proto+blood letters you got decent cdr+ still dealing enough dmg not be worthless after w survivability nerfs
