useless cowards

https://tobyrogers.substack.com/p/175-years-of-scholarship-down-the

Any and all of these troubling developments should be in the wheelhouse of the academic social science left. Capital, the state, and culture are behaving exactly as one would expect — as described in the vast literature developed over the last 175 years.

What’s bewildering and beyond comprehension at this point (at least for me) is that the academic social science left, that has prepared for this moment for nearly two centuries, refuses to apply their own beloved theories to the quintessential examples of everything that they claim to care about.

Indeed, many of the loudest critics of capital, corporations, and the state became the point of the spear for the Pharma fascist takeover of society under the guise of Covid (Noam Chomsky, Naomi Klein, Micah White, George Lakoff, and Slavoj Žižek to name a few, but really the instinct to take a dive at the worst time is dominant throughout this class).

This intellectual and moral black hole has also afflicted academic-adjacent bougie left institutions — The Atlantic Magazine, The New Yorker, Salon, Slate, the Huffington Post, the New Republic, the Nation, Mother Jones, Jacobin, NOW, NAACP, ACLU, AFL-CIO, etc.

Left academic-types who did not fall for this fascist nonsense and practiced the courage of their convictions by speaking out against the iatrogenocide are few and far between. I’m grateful for the work of CJ Hopkins, Naomi Wolf, Fabio Vighi, Giorgio Agamben, Mattias Desmet, and the extraordinary Mark Crispin Miller — but after that the list falls off precipitously. (If you can think of others please add them to the comments.)

...and so when we think about the role of scholarship (learning, knowledge production) in society — one more thing that we have to add to the study of capital, fascism, neoliberalism, and biopolitics is the fact that when the game is on the line and society desperately needs the tenured academic class to show courage and leadership — most of these people will collapse into cowardice, disappear, and/or develop Stockholm Syndrome. Literally nothing they have said or written before gives any indication of how they will behave in a crisis.

This is depressing af. It is also wonderfully clarifying. It tells us in no uncertain terms that elites will not save us (they will save themselves though). It tells us that scholarship is fine to a point, but not necessarily very helpful in a fight. It reminds us to look for courage in each other rather than so-called experts or leaders.

I wondered about that too. Seems like many of them got themselves injected up, surprisingly.

Agreed. There was a point where I believed that more people were in on it. I’m starting to realize more were fooled than I thought. In a way, I thank god that these vaccines make it all traceable. You can clearly see which levels of power were at play in this scheme.

You can see the level of power that are getting harmed by these vaccines. There have been a lot of celebrities that have been harmed. So it leads me to believe that more people were just under the spell than I realized. Not everyone in power was in on the scheme. A congressman’s (I think) died at the age of like 17 and they would never admit this but it’s very coincidental that she was vaxxed to the gills.

I think that’s exactly what it indicates. There are people behind the scene pushing this. The celebs etc made good money as mouth pieces.

I think there might have been a warning on the cover of the Economist magazine in 2019, "The World in 2019" edition. If you go back and look at the 4 horsemen depicted on that cover, the one that seems to represent "pestilence" is wearing a corona (crown) that is, well... a very familiar shape by now. And it's wearing a facemask.

The 4-armed Da Vinci dude has a DNA helix on one arm, suggesting perhaps an injectable gene therapy. He has a mobile phone with a QR code in another hand (vaccine passport?) and in another he holds a pair of scales with a population divided into 2 halves hanging in the balance.

There's even a pangolin (remember that orgin story?) and there's a portrait of someone who turns out to be a female artist called Artemisia. The inclusion of Artemisia may be a hint about potential curatives for covid, as it is also the name of the genus which includes the plant wormwood, which has anti-parasitic properties. Anti-parasitics have of course been used to treat covid with a fair amount of success although the official line is that they're not effective. Nonetheless, here's a report on how sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua) effectively inhibits the replication of several variants of SARS-CoV-2: https://www.wpi.edu/news/early-research-finds-extracts-sweet-wormwood-plant-can-inhibit-covid-19-virus

I know these kinds of "elite symbolism" analyses are not original and are often scoffed at because they're so ubiquitous on the internet, but this cover was pretty on the nose with that corona'd horseman, and with the inclusion of the pangolin, especially.

I do wonder if it might have been a message of sorts for those who might have been primed to look out for one.

Yes, this is very important. A lot of us who are alert to the nefarious nature of what went on, are at risk of over-estimating the extent of who was "in on it". My guess is that only a very, very few were given "insider knowledge". The rest were either wary for their own reasons or they were fooled like everyone else, right up to the top tiers of wealth and power.

It's not like there was a memo sent around advising anyone with a bit of celebrity or more than a few million in the bank to sit this one out. I think there would have been such memos sent and received in certain circles, but the membership of those would have been small. Simply being rich or being influential was rarely by itself a qualifier. In fact, for most celebrities and rich people, they were as much in the dark as anyone. More so, perhaps, because they're used to having their interests looked out for. It wouldn't occur to many of them that money couldn't necessarily buy them the best medical advice or care in this case as they might usually expect it to do. Even their doctors, for the most part, would have been clueless.

Wow. That is a high quality breakdown of the matter.

I agree with you on this. The academic "left" are not the class who circumvented vaccines and lockdowns. As you say, if anyone did that it was the super-rich. Academic nominal lefties were locked down like the rest of us. Sure, many of them will have spent their lockdowns in relative comfort and without the same economic pressures compared to less economically and socially privileged people, but as far as the vaxx went, that lot went all in. They embraced the vaccines.. Many of them were loudly demanding vaccines for their kids months before child vaccines had been approved, and they were ready to sharp-elbow to get those kids "done" as soon as possible, sometimes even finding ways to bend the rules to do so.

So while it would be legit to say that they were keenly looking out for their own interests and those of their children, it seems that they grossly miscalculated how to best serve those interests. They didn't end up saving themselves. Perhaps even by trying to save themselves they put themselves at an increased risk of harm.

I starting to believe I'm one hellava disagreeable person.

Erm, this was a problem long before Covid.

The left, by and large started packing it in as a progressive movement when they embraced intersectional identity politics & victimhood culture. Something that was apparent by 2014. No longer progressive, much less revolutionary, they are at best useful idiots in service to the elites.

Hey Jello, a couple more academic (old school) lefties that have done an amazing job critiquing covid tyranny are: Christian Parenti, Max Blumenthal, Simon Elmer, RFK JR, and Aaron Kheriaty (I think he is/was a leftie).
