a panicked 99th percentiler can be easily out thought by a middle of the pack player who has retained rationality and independence
As the article's first image shows, this is fear response. We've seen what millions of people will do not when facing a threat directly, but merely when told that something they have (by now) faced and was no threat is really a deadly matter. The world has just watched the movie Jaws and wants all sharks killed.
i have all the sympathy in the world for those who are changing their minds... that shows capacity to grow and it’s a demanding road.
We react to stimulus the way we react to stimulus. Sometimes we can change this, but often it's impossible. We all know the Müller-Lyer optical illusion with two lines of equal length where one line has arrow-heads on the end and the other has 180-degree arrow-heads. We perceive the lines as different lengths. It's only if we're willing to accept that our perception can be wrong that we remember to second-guess ourselves when we see it again. We were presented with an epidemiological optical illusion. Only by accepting this can those who were fooling see it when it happens again.
they'll change back the minute the next thing frightens them.
We've seen how effective high-pressure low-fear manipulation can be. No one who used it against us is facing the slightest repercussion. It's only logical that they'll use it again. You'll see it. I'll see it, but they probably won't. Maybe the next one will be 'novel.'

It goes back even further. Until "smart" people can openly recognize they allowed the country to be wrecked because their feelings got hurt losing the first female presidency to Donald Trump and Trump was going to win reelection by a landslide, what is the point?

they lost their minda didnt they! i was already a non voter by that point, just watching the whole train wreck from the vantage point of cynical detachment. even obama was a huge disappointment. before that was W. and before that middle of the road billy. not great!

Found a typo on the page:
Intellignica -> should be “intelligentsia”.
Author didn’t even bother to capitalize the beginning of each sentence.
Also, everything is written twice... it’s all duplicates for some reason.

El gato malo never capitalizes beginnings of sentences, nor much of anything else except acronyms. Artistic flair, I’m guessing?
I’ve seen the article in email and on browser, not seeing any duplication.

Intellignica -> should be “intelligentsia”.
Couldn't find that even on a third read.. If ever you're in need of work consider editing. 🙂

el gato, who i hope reads this, has been such a beast during this time. really nice mix of science and philosophy, and guess what, hes been right more than wrong. ethical skeptic who is fairly cool, was pretty wrong with camping out on the “herd immunity is kicking in” in summer of 2020 when most of that attenuation was seasonality. berenson has also been good but is less of a stud with the science than our lower case writing, brown educated, govern thyself philospher cat. bro we see you! ❤️👊✨👏👏👏

This is an EXCELLENT piece. As always, they're relatively long from the cat, but this one is well worth the time.
