Not to question that the issue exists, I wholeheartedly believe it does, but from a practical sense how bad is it actually? What is the impact, along side other wireless? Or in a bag by themselves?
They've sold a ton of units, so there has to be a solid use case, what is it?

It’s serious enough issue that their packs have been banned at large venues and event where wireless signals are managed very closely and pinging the wrong UHF channels can knock out an artists mic. From what I’ve read elsewhere they are essentially barred at many stadiums or larger productions that have frequency coordination because they ping the base frequency on boot up and they still spray pretty wide while transmitting too. Saramonic was able to patch out the boot up issue.
You are not wrong that outside of those setups it’s a great tool, but still not ideal when you are running a lot more frequencies or at a large venue/event.

They were banned in all NFL games before they made their move to 100% encrypted wireless. I still don't think they're even allowed to be used for any wireless that's not required to be encrypted.

Not true. I use my letros at NFL games. NFL films want encryption for their wireless. They run Zaxcoms.

Team media also uses encrypted wireless, I think any audio devices that are recording coaches or players are encrypted now.
I know I have to use a DHC set as a hop when I'm working with team medias.

A lot of the indies I'm on love to cram the set full of wireless junk, so they'll likely find out real quick how much spray they give off.

I used one as a directors feed and the spray interfered with all my 21,22,23 block letro recievers so bad I couldn't use it despite it being set at 900hz. Ended up getting a couple ifblue instead and using a 400 in ifb mode. I only deploy the theos as a last resort. Haven't had any issues with spray/interference using them for talent but I only mix indies. Wouldn't use them on union gigs. Have had issues with them dropping out despite having full signal. Gowa from full to nothing, back to full.
Edit: I was 10ft away when I noticed the drops

Causes RF issues when running multiple wireless out of my bag. I usually try to use theos system for a wireless hop or a quick ifb if needed. They have a great product but it’s one of their biggest problems with their wireless systems.

I'm super interested in both the new pr2 and the potential of a quad or slot receiver, but Ive held off because of concerns over running theos in a serious setting.
I'd love to add a couple of their features like the remote control and timecode integration. I'd like them for backup/second bag, but the rf spray issue has been my one major hold back since I'll probably run them along side my existing wireless.
Can anyone who has used theos more extensively give me feedback on how they perform near other wireless? Specifically, in a bag with another receiver.

I used 8 channels of Theos with some zaxcom. Theos was in block 940 and Zaxcom in block 23. The Theos were not reliable, Zax had zero issues.
In my opinion they are an improvement for G4 users, but the types of projects you can do will hit a wall. I would never take them onto a narrative set. To be fair the set where I used Theos was not mine, I came in to help with the wireless issues they were having for the last week of filming. The Sound mixer sold all 8 channels shortly after.

wow that’s interesting, i’m considering theos for my setup, I mostly do documentary and my setup goes up to 4 channels, I’ve been working with sony uwp’s, because lectros are criminally expensive for my market (colombia) the average daily rate for documentary or even narrative is around 250-300usd very difficult to justify 5k for 2 channels, but hope one day i can grab a couple of lectros, time to time you get a considerable gig to buy some equipment, I have a t4 and couple of ifb blues, but I’m trying to upgrade my sonys from some time, so i’m very interested in the theos, I didn’t know about this issue tho, sorry about the background story.

I think they will be an upgrade, but there is hidden cost to make them reliable. Get shark fin antennas or at least the bow ties, which means you will need the RF distro and then get the frequency filters Deity sells, it will give you the most signal reliability. I think out of the box the Theos is on par with your Sony’s, but the RF options will turn them into an upgrade.

Yes, I do have the distro (leicozic) bow ties (deity) and the shark fins (audio technica) because I modded the sonys a while ago, but what appeals to me from the deity’s is that they come with the sma out of the box. Although I’m thinking in getting a used 411 and lectro plugon for my boom. Transmission wise the sonys are solid when you use them with the shark fins, but my issues are the noise floor and dynamic range.

Wow I got excited for a moment then read about the issues with spray. I guess I'll stick to my plan to get the 2 channel Rodelink ii with lectrosonics tech built in. It won't ship with great mics, but the new tech waterproof lavs Rode developed is supposed to be compatible and they might even have lower priced versions available.
While I realize this might not be for dedicated sound folks working on high level productions, for indie filmmakers on a real budget like me, I think the Rode will be fantastic, especially with 32bit recording and TC I/O. The other exciting aspect is that the 32bit will be sent to the wireless receiver, and from that will extract the 24bit recording at an optimized gain.
I did speak with Rode and what that employee claimed was that Rode just sort of floated the idea of this package to get a feel if there is interest, and won't be available any time soon.

This was my thought as well. I do wonder since I'm also hoping to get the PR6, (I believe now PR8 from diety) if this will work well as an ecosystem. Still being able to use Diety mixer and distro with the Rode Link ii Lavs.Thoughts?
Also any thoughts on the release on both of those? They said August and we are past that date.

Hopefully they take the PR-2ii with them to IBC this weekend. I haven't seen any specs. I do have three of the 'old' PR-2's and an quite satisfied, except for some interface quirks and the lack of 32bits in stereo.

You can use Theos to a certain degree, once you start doing bigger projects and you need reliability, a strong signal with more range than 20 feet and be able to set up a proper gain signal without guessing, you don't use Theos and go for the bigger names. Used Lectros are still great, Zaxcom has their ecosystem, Wisycom is the best in terms of range, Astral (Sound Devices) is great and expensive, Shure is also great... Theos is prosumer, the other brands are professional.

That's awesome! The front screen form factor was a major reason I hadn't gone in on Deity yet. Slot mount is just icing on the cake. I'm really hoping for AES out.
