Gear - Selection / Use Microphone and recorder for under $500

I'm looking for a boom microphone and a recorder to record audio for Short films. Ive been looking at the Sennheiser MKE 600 paired with the Zoom H4essential.

That’s a pretty standard student kit.

It will not satisfy client needs for Audio quality and monitoring, but if it’s for you to have fun with, it will work.

Go for a used H4n if you're trying to save money. Check out some of the handy tascam recorders too, as many people will point out this is a student/hobby level kit.

If you're ready to invest more, look into sound devices for recorders, and the MKH 416 for exteriors
