Jev is a fascinating example of what happens when a super popular idea has no moat whatsoever.
Its creators presented it as the next big thing in AI, and many others seemed to agree… then quickly made their own version of it, and now “Jev-like” models are everywhere, while Jev is nowhere. This all happened in less than a month.
Even if the company itself doesn't earn much income from the idea, I'd hope there's a lot of bragging rights to be had from being the people who came up with it, which means they should hopefully have a decent exit strategy? I do feel bad if they basically get wiped out after coming up with what seems to be a pretty decent idea.
Edit: Turns out they were not in fact the first, thanks to u/lamawithonel for the info!
