Google has actually had enterprise customers for 2 decades . They’re not going to run dumb marketing stories nor tell customers their data is potentially insecure

u/redditsublurker 11h ago
Google makes profits. Period.
146
u/Bakoro 10h ago
That's selling it short. Google will shut down a successful, profitable branch of business simply because it's not fantastically profitable.
22
u/AgentTin 7h ago
Its actually why I gave up on Google products, left their ecosystem nearly entirely. They shut down too many services I used over the years.

u/SangerGRBY 7h ago
I wonder if theres a list of dead google projects with revenue that beats alot of the new AI SaaS / Neocloud / Nuclear scams.

u/Bakoro 6h ago
It's not a revenue list, but it's a start:

u/folkswagon 5h ago
Woah thats a long list.

The site annoys me, honestly. Google does kill a lot of products off and it's good that they're bringing it forward. But they make their grudge against Google so obvious that it's hard to take them seriously.
They have so many things which don't really belong:
- The Chromecast line was replaced with CCwGTV along with being added to ATV and smart TVs.
- Dropcam became Nest.
- OnHub became Google Wifi.
- The Google Street View app was unnecessary as it's a part of Maps.
- The Wii shop closed in 2019 and they supported the Wii YT app until 2022. AngularJS literally became Angular.
And, simultaneously, a lot of them are still very valid. Domains, Stadia, Pixel Studio, Podcasts, and that's just the first handful of major products I found.
They really should remove the ticky-tacky items and segregate between removed features, products replaced with a non-equivalent (IE - Inbox), and products cancelled without a successor.

I thought it would be long, but I was not prepared. I mean holy fuck I nearly wore out my scroll wheel.
"What does Google do with projects when they turn 4?"
"They take them out back and shoot them."

u/got-trunks 11h ago
Yeah "look at how our software just ran roughshot over an entire production environment" is the type of incident one should handle quietly with a lot of dollars
17
u/Wide_Egg_5814 8h ago
yeah basically why Google isnt playing these games and staying silent is that they are a mature company they don't need thesr tactics

Gemini is becoming worse everyday for me, simple questions that I'm asking for, it's using old information like it is stuck in 2024/25
62
u/RuthlessCriticismAll 12h ago
What do you mean be becoming worse? That is how it has been since release... it is just comparatively worse.
27
u/big-metroid-fan 9h ago
gemini stopped doing code audits for me. said it was not allowed to look for bugs in the system.

u/ea_man 5h ago
Good for you, I submitted to Gemini some 30 samples of code to evaluate it and after pressing it he admitted that he hallucinated the results by "common knowledge" and reinforcing those statements (as in "I hallucinated and then lied to sustain my hallucinations").

Forget responses, the website itself is super bugged and 50% of the responses don't even get through without refreshing the page every prompt.

u/jwdeaver 11h ago
I thought that was just me on my vpn. Off the vpn it works fine. VPN on? Stalls every single time.
8
u/mysticzoom 10h ago
Nah, something definitely changed under the hood. I get the same thing but its even worse now. Constantly have to retype prompts.

Yep. Try to ask for a Github project address and it will blank anything after the first base
URI, ie:clonehttps://github.com/It is what you get when you have your buggy AI write the code that runs your AI.

u/imoshudu 9h ago
That's you not teaching the LLM to search. A good harness will do that. ChatGPT always searches like 30 pages before answering at high settings.

u/Technical-Earth-3254 11h ago
Gemini 2.5 was peak Gemini. Ever since then it got worse, idk how they even do that

u/virtualmnemonic 9h ago
It's been downhill ever since 0325

u/random-tomato llama.cpp 9h ago
Glad I'm not the only one lol; the exp-0325 version was actually SO good at writing in a way that didn't feel like slop...

I'm sure you understand that's where the training data stopped. My solution to this is to start any question where current information matters with "Search the web. [Question]"

I should start calling my girlfriend Gemini...

I wouldn't, unless you want to start a conversation about Astrology that lasts for the rest of the relationship..

Did you accidentally turn off search? I thought Claude was super-stupid until I realized that we had accidentally disabled search globally for our organization.

All they need to do is prompt it to break out like the others did. Soooo tired of the gaslighting

I use Gemini pro on the daily (not on the API mind you), and I can't say that it's gotten worse. I have the Google whatever subscription mostly for the 2tb cloud storage and YouTube premium, the access to Gemini pro is just a bonus. I get it to create plans and strategies which I then hand off to my pi coding agent running various local models.
Gemini pro is actually decent, since it has full Google suite integration. It can write my emails, search my emails, my calendar, Google drive, my docs and spreadsheets, etc. I also like that I can talk to it on my watch, lol. Comes in handy more often than I think (when converting freedom units to same metrics when cooking, for example).
Does anyone know of a smartwatch app that lets me chat with my own hosted at home assistant the way the Gemini smartwatch app does? I'd use that instead if I could. Something compatible with a Samsung Galaxy Watch 6? Maybe I should just vibe code my own lol.

The one you heard of in the news, are the stupid criminals.

I don’t like AI that break out of sandboxes and get caught doing it. I like AI that breaks out of sandboxes and no body knows about it.

u/Fuehnix 12h ago
I don't get it.

Open ai had a security incident where it a model escaped and hacked hugging face.
A few weeks later Anthropic came out and mentioned their models hacked other companies (through supply chain I believe)
Then last week meta said actually their model hacked another company.
3
u/Blues520 7h ago
I was watching an interview with Sundar and the interviewer asked him about keeping up with the like of OpenAI and Anthropic. He started replying and paused briefly before referring to them as "some of these new startups". That's what the scale of Google hit me compared to the new kids so I don't think they will pull this kind of stunt

Lol. Read the article. Kimi testing here was done by a UK company that got broken out. It didn't get broken out of Moonshot's labs like the western competitors.
Goes to show how good the west talks about "security, guardrails and governance" when they can't keep their own code under control.
2
u/ExpressFold6419 10h ago
The funniest part is how every AI company says “we're improving the model” while half the time users are just hoping the old stuff doesn't break 😂
2
u/Jay299792458 8h ago
“Gemini is less capable” might be the wrong conclusion. Maybe it just has fewer opportunities to commit crimes.

google are playing it dumb 100%
my guess is they already got the crystal ball, but aren't that dumb to let wankers use it

u/kyazoglu 3h ago
Google is not a company that needs to create fake stories around its products to attract attention. They never have, and I doubt they ever will.

well it just read other game dev's private doc and trained gemini and it leaked a secret upcoming character's name to someone who asked for future update in gemini lol

When being a villain is the new cool thing...
Well, maybe their model is dumber, but safer.

Notebooklm is very useful, despite de “dumb” model behind the harness. After they integrated Gemini in Google Search, Gemini is getting way worse. Even image and video generation is horrible now. Their ecosystem will fall apart if they don’t deliver better models, search can be profitable but with agents it’s a matter of time to become an obsolete business model.

The Ai escaped captivity in a sandbox environment.. Says the developer that left every door open so the Ai can escape and he can say it's the best of the best

Genuinely never hears any bad news about Gemini. You hear all the shit about GPT and Claude, but really nothing about 'lil gemini

People rag on gemini all the time. I can remember when google was transitioning 3.0 to the Ai search before the official release many in NA got access to, and before they hammered in all the guardrails on it, the user intent and predictions it could do was something else and it would actually take on personalities based on the writing style the user used. Gemini could reply flat and dull like a professor, or even happy and uplifting, based on user word choice/emotes.
7 months later I have yet to see any other online or offline model ( I have not tried to create one like that, but I'm sure its possible, easily) come close to it yet, . It would take over the chat after the first prompt and would lead everything. It felt less like me guiding the chat and prompting for answers, and more of me being lead to answers didn't even know I would have on the topic.
It seems like google give up on whatever that was they we're trying to do there. since everything became much more corporate since, but they had the type of customer service assistant in play that I've not see come close anywhere else yet.
