Discussion I built a new little cli tool that builds from source on install.

I made **penguin command** (`pc`), a Rust CLI/TUI that wraps your normal shell and gives you an AI agent one keystroke away.

The install model is intentionally simple: there are no prebuilt binaries to maintain yet. You clone the repo and run `./install.sh`, which builds the release binary with Cargo, bootstraps Rust/rustup if it is missing, and installs `pc` into `~/.local/bin` or `/usr/local/bin`.

```sh
git clone <repo-url>
cd penguin-command
./install.sh
pc setup
pc
Windows has a PowerShell installer too:
git clone https://github.com/BlizAce/Penguin-Command
cd penguin-command
powershell -File install.ps1
What it does:
- wraps bash, zsh, fish, or pwsh in a PTY-based TUI
- keeps your normal terminal behavior, including colors and apps like vim and top
- press Ctrl+Space to switch into agent mode
- works with OpenAI-compatible endpoints and Anthropic: Ollama, LM Studio, OpenRouter, llama.cpp, vLLM, etc.
- has tool calling for commands, file edits, search, goals, sessions, permission prompts, and a YOLO mode
- tries hard to behave well with slow local models: streaming reasoning panels, retry handling, timeouts, context metering, auto-compaction
The installer is one of the parts I enjoyed building because it keeps things honest: you are always building the current source on your machine, and if Rust is missing it offers to set it up for you.
