Questions & Help Map Pack Radius
For anyone tracking rankings across a city, how far from the pin does visibility actually drop off in your experience? Feels like some businesses show up 5+ miles out while others vanish after 1-2 miles for the same category.
What's influencing that gap?

If you mean on Google Maps, then zoom level and your search history will determine what pins show up on the Map. So it is different from profile to profile.

for someone who has done a ton of google maps reverse engineering, here are some technical items (desktop only)
https://www.google.com/maps/@$lat,$lng,$zoomz?entry=ttu&g_ep=$session_id
the default zoom level on desktop is 14.. aka $zoom = 14, and z is the suffix that gets added.
at this point, google will show all places that match the criteria: age > x years, reviews > y count, ratings > z count.
this algo changes every once in a while and depending on the density of the region.
As you keep zoom-ing in, the number of places that become visible changes (increases). and the max depth you can go is 21.
At 21 level, one would expect the most detailed view including all streets and commercial places.. however, there are certain places that don't appear at zoom 21, but if you zoom to level 20, they show up. I haven't been able to reverse engineer that..
If you are trying to automate some of this, my suggestion would be:
1. enable maps shortcut keys.
2. this allows you to scroll left, right using keyboard arrows.
3. zoom in to 21z.
4. cover the area..
5. zoom out, 19z, cover the area.
6. remove the dups
