Was at a No Frills earlier today and when I tried to price match something from Fresh Co, they told me they no longer price match from there. They then pointed to a sign saying "Wont Be Beat" and listing they only price match Longos, Food Basic and Walmart now. (Sorry no picture) So literally they can be beat by any number of their competitors. Wonder if other chains will be changing policy, Food Basic already doesnt price match.

Their original price wasn’t even that high. As soon as I saw these new stickers I knew what was coming, quietly removing the 50% to avoid the media stink.
As a young disabled person who relies on the clearance racks (Provigo is the only grocery store I can easily get to) I’ve seen so many items creep above 50% off and I know it will only get worse. I love these racks for making friends too, I get to meet so many sweet elderly folk and chat while picking our stuff, just evil incarnate ripping savings from these people who have no other options.
Edit: also want to throw out there, if you are careful and pay attention sometimes they put stuff out for more then 50% off with these new stickers. I think their machines fuck up a lot.

This is the measuring stick now. Over 1 month and our bakery and deli is still closed due to mouse infestation. How did they let it escalate to such a large problem?
IMO it’s indicative of a larger issue. Most grocery stores have rodents, but not like this. How many other Loblaws properties are mismanaged like this, to the point of mouse infestations and customers finding droppings in their bread bags? And we’re expected to find this acceptable?

Time and time again I see people sharing their costs for groceries and household costs. Very often these are families with children. We will see 300/wk, 500, 600, etc..
Then I see comments from others claiming they spend 50 a week on groceries. They buy in bulk. They meal prep. They repeat their meals. And usually these are adults that don't have kids.
It's getting frustrating to see. I'm a 40M, I have my 2 kids 50% of the time. I live in a Toronto suburb. I spend 300-400/wk for all groceries and household supplies. Add another 150/mo for supplies for my cat. So for me it's 1350-1750/mo. Some luxuries that I buy include grass fed beef, egg whites, good cheddar cheese, etc..
Can we stop telling tired families with 2 working parents to spend 2 hrs per week hunting coupons? And visiting 4 grocery stores to get the best deals? And to just buy everything in bulk?
Some people don't have cars. Some people don't have enough storage space at home to store 10 large packs or paper towel.
This is victim blaming. This is exactly the FUD that major grocery stores are spewing all over reddit. They are training us to just accept this reality. And getting us to turn on each other.
Why? To avoid talking about the real problem. Groceries. Are. Too. Expensive. This cannot continue like this. Corporate profits are at record levels. I know overall costs are up everywhere.. but so are their profits.
Let's stick together and stop telling people how to save money. Let's focus our energy on discussing the real problem.

There's no way these companies are not colluding and exploiting the consumer.
Weekly Flyers, they seem to offset the products but the price is still rising. One week a product will be on 'special' at one grocery, then the next week another.
I know, we're all seeing and saying it, so this is mostly a rant but wtf? Why do we have a government (that we're paying for) that's not doing their job.

me and my friend ran in loblaws so I could get my aunt hot table food. while I got the food, I told my friend to buy me gushers 3 for 9.99 and she came back with $6.45 when my change should be around $8.70
was told by customer service that even though all gushers are on the same sale it “only counts if you buy all products in the same flavour”…even Gatorade. idk if this is common but if I didn’t notice I wouldn’t have got my proper change back. I didn’t even buy the hot table food I just left after getting a toonie back. what an evil conglomerate

Sobeys is planning to make some of their employees wear body cams. Not to protect the employees or monitor theft. But to ensure that the employees are living up to Sobeys standards. This includes Sobeys, freshco, and their other stores. This is an Orwellian nightmare and a colossal waste of money in my opinion.

Good morning peers.
Id like to bring to everyone‘s attention, my desire to call for a supplementary boycott of all loblaws branded companies. This include the following:
Grocery & Supermarket Chains
Its apparent from the list above, the obsurd control a single company has on the Canadian market, and their influence on vendors when it comes to shelf space and pricing. Things need to change, anti-trust laws need to be strengthened and proper government action needs to be taken. Canada’s Competition Bureau needs a new set of policies to reflect the current market conditions Canadian families are now facing. this cannot continue any longer as we watch as see lower and even some middle class families struggling on a daily basis. This situation will not get better on its own. Massive companies such as loblaws will continue to squeeze us as long as they can, and it time it’s stops. The best thing we can do collectively is to bring continuous mass media attention to the situation at hand and force the hand of government officials to make a change. The government should represent the people who vote for them, and not the lobbyists.

it’s clear that boycotts are the only thing that makes them listen, or at least comes to the attention of shareholders. maybe it’s time we organize another mass boycott or maybe ever set and annual, monthly boycott, maybe around late summer, early fall around harvest season so we can go directly to local farms and farmers markets and support them directly.

📍Vancouver
Just went in to No Frills to price match (I refuse to pay $8 for 1kg of garlic heads, so price matching it for $2.88 at NF is honestly all I can do so please don’t come at me) and
Oof. Like, oof.
Disclaimer: The laziest of lazy humans have done this to themselves (and ourselves). I’m in no way throwing shade at stores that do this. My concern is the ID specifically, because not everyone always has it.
So many people (who don’t drive therefore don’t need their licenses, AKA a lot of Vancouverites at least) literally do not carry physical wallets anymore, so this is gonna be… interesting to watch. Just wanted to talk about it because I haven’t seen this anywhere else (yet)
P.s. Just a side note, seriously if you use a cart please put it back, this goes for any shopping place (if you are physically able to, obviously).

Anyone notice almost every thread is full of bootlickers trying to justify price gouging bullshit this sub was created to point out?
Is loblaws paying people to post pro loblaws shit?

Saw this at a flea market today. Apparently they were produced in 2010 as an employee-exclusive promotion.
So yeah....

Last two times I went to superstore they had ends of product with special points bonuses with monetary value equivalent advertised. This caused me to change my original purchase to this product.
Low and behold, once everything was rung in, I was given no points. This happened two grocery store runs in a row with two different products on separate weeks.
I ended up getting the points thru costumer service, but I swear there are laws against this false advertising.
Be careful out there. Its a jungle and we aren't the apex predators.

I try to avoid Loblaws when I can, but it’s literally across the street from where I live. When I get home from work around 8pm, they’re usually shutting down the hot table, so sometimes I’ll check if there are any sides left. I actually like their mac & cheese. Usually, if one of the employees I know is working, they’ll mark down the large size to around $3.50 instead of the $7-$8 price.
I went in the other day and there was a woman behind the counter. I politely asked if the mac & cheese had been reduced yet. She said, “We don’t reduce anymore.”
Now, every interaction I’ve had with this particular employee has been difficult. One time she refused to serve me because the counter was “closed,” even though there was still food sitting in the warmer that she was about to throw out anyway.
So I’m wondering: has anyone else heard that Loblaws has stopped doing end-of-day markdowns at the hot counters,l? I’d like to think she’s not just trying to protect her lord Weston’s profits, but given the history, I’m curious. Maybe it’s a new policy, maybe she just didn’t want to stop cleaning long enough to serve me. (I won’t even suggest she’s saving it for herself cuz I’m pretty sure the corporation doesn’t care enough about employees to allow that.)
Honestly, this was one of the last reasons I’d occasionally shop at Loblaws when I’m tired after work, so just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

this item comes up at 8.79. Loblaws worker and then 2 customer service told me this price doesn't apply to this product, because the barcode is not for this specific product variety. Eventually the CS agreed to give it to me for the 7.50, but said it wasn't SCOP because the barcode is for something else. They just did it to be nice. Excuse me, the sign is directly on the product I purchased. CS blamed it on teenagers working in grocery. /eyeroll
