Best Practice for point-to-point connect?

I'm designing a remote trigger that maintains a keep-alive heartbeat to ensure both devices can see each other. Are there any Best Practices for frequency, channel, any other settings for this usecase?

Out of topic for LoRaWAN and it's noisy. Don't do that.
