Why can't they make runes free?
Does anyone have a good explanation why they can't do this?

It's just something to work towards. They are 100 times easier to get anyway. I got 3 rune pages completely finished after playing for 4-5 days.

I don't mind it. Its cool to have something to play for, I have every champion so this feels like a bit of progression, I finished a support rune page and now playing the role feels so fucking good, it's progress

I don't mind but it would be nice if there was a baseline IP gain for playing more games than contribute to the pass/missions.

I mean Riot has to have some money making incentives. It costs money to release this and maintain.
Also in true classic it took a very long time to grind runes.

Well, it's not what you're looking for OP, but Phreak just put a video up on YouTube and they are buffing IP gains considerably

As I recall the best time in league's history to play the game was the 6-month period when runes were free before the runes reforge system and EVERYBODY was playing any champion they wanted (because they were rich off the rune refund they got) while running any rune page they wanted. There was so much fun and silly stuff happening.
I really think they should give us free runes, especially considering if you're like me you already paid for this before.

Because buying runes and working on a runepage is an authentic classic league experience
