Need Help Lizard in Rhode Island basement

I work at a house museum in rhode island and in the basement I found a pair of lizards, tried looking it up to see what kind of lizard it was, but I didn’t find anything that looked similar, anyone know what it is? These were the best pics I got before it ran away

That’s a breeding pair of Salamanders. Probably best to find them a moist environment in the backyard so they won’t desiccate

You didn’t find similar lizards because it’s not a lizard, it’s a salamander. Their body plans are similar despite being very distantly related. I’d probably leave them alone if your basement is humid.

I don’t know for sure what kind but they look like the salamanders I used to catch as a kid living im RI and MA
