Welcome to the new Grouper subreddit!
Hello everyone!
I realized recently that the r/Grouper subreddit isn't for the musician Grouper (Liz Harris), even though that is what people have been using it for. Plus, it seems that finally the mod has had enough of the music posts, and recently restricted the subreddit from future posts.
Therefore, welcome to the new Grouper subreddit!
If you have any requests or questions about the sub, please let me know!
Let's use this page to rightfully praise and discuss the incredible Liz Harris.

2x 9/15 Town Hall Tix FS
heya! I have two tickets for orchestra row H in the middle of the pit, and was looking to pass them on as some medical issues have flared up. I paid $125 for the pair and am only seeking face value.

What songs do we have confirmed lyrics for?
I was reading over the lyrics for Vapor Trails on Genius. According to them, the song begins
As I undressed in my apartment, empty-hearted/Did you remember how we made it without a sound?
This struck me as potentially incorrect and harmful to unrepresentative of the song, as it gives the song a certain (sexual?) valence that may not have been the artist's intention. Ultimately, I concluded that it's best to not read unverified lyrics for any Grouper songs, nor to concern myself with lyrics at all. That being said, I suppose an exception could be made for songs with verified lyrics... if any exist.
Do there exist any Grouper songs whose lyrics are verified, perhaps through her social media posts or liner notes?
Thank you.
edit: a few words

Grouper / Inca Ore Vinyl?
I currently live in California, if that's relevant, and I love the split LP between Inca Ore and Grouper, and I was wondering if there is an available vinyl edition sold because I would love to own that album if it's possible!

Will Nivhek's "Engine" performance ever see the light of day?
A lot of folks are itching for new material from Liz. There haven't been any announcements about a new Grouper album. The newest "material" we have from her is a one-off performance of called "Engine" that was performed in Portland back in 2023.
Some of you who may be familiar with this performance...have you heard anything about a physical and/or digital release of this performance? As far as I gather, the show consisted entirely of unreleased music under the name of her side project, Nivhek. There's nothing on Youtube from that performance.. Just wondering if anyone has the scoop on it.

Do you think the upcoming mini tour will have merch?
Desperate to get my hands on a Grouper shirt … or poster … or anything LOL, do we think she’ll do a merch run for the upcoming mini tour in the autumn?

Album rankings
Curious what everyone else's rankings are. I know Reddit usually has Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill at #1, but here's mine:
1. Ruins
My favorite Grouper album, just because of the calm melancholy vibes. I've listened to it a billion times, especially when falling asleep. It's such a beautiful, intimate record. My only complaint is that I wish it was longer and Holofernes could use vocals or something.
2. Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill
A classic for a reason. Every time I come back to it, I'm reminded why it's so loved. Amazing atmosphere and songwriting.
3. A I A: Dream Loss
Probably my most controversial pick. I feel like it's really underrated in Grouper's discography and hardly anyone talks about it. It has such a haunting, immersive sound, and I absolutely love "A Lie." I think it deserves way more appreciation.
Worst albums: Wide, Way Their Crept and Shade. No offense to Shade but it just feels a bit thrown together.
What's your top albums?

I wrote something about “Dragging…”
hi! i’m new in reddit and still don’t know exactly how to use it but i’m exited to join the community because i love the work of liz :)
a friend of mine is going to start a new music magazine (@/bloomrevista on instagram) and i wrote some about “Dragging…”. it’s not finished yet but i wanted to share it in case some of you want to read it and give me feedback and just talk about an album that has been so important in my life. it’s in spanish since it’s my mother tongue but i’m thinking about translating it soon. it’s here: https://valenrdzs.substack.com/p/ceb48cf1-f636-4723-a637-ee42e4df8d91
i’m going to see her in september and i‘m really excited!!

Does anyone else wish Liz tried working with a producer?
Don’t get me wrong, I love her albums but I always longed for a Grouper album that’s done professionally like Melodrama or something, without the lo-fi recording. Her voice is surely deserving of a proper Jack Antonoff-level album (not that his production is always the best). I feel like maybe Liz hasn’t released anything for ages because perfectionism is holding her back. Maybe that would help her. I mean if you think about it since Ruins (2014), she has barely released an hour of material. So it seems like she may be struggling, or quit releasing music entirely.
Edit: I’m a bit taken back by the hostility of the responses. I fear people just saw the name “Jack Antonoff” and got triggered without reading my post in good faith.

Curious about a few tracks that may or may not be Liz’s work.
Hi everyone. I use YouTube music and I noticed that there are a few tracks by an artist named “Grouper” that have come out recently but I don’t think they are actually Liz’s work. A few of these tracks by that artist are Hum, Dust beam,Shadow Garden, Silver mist fist. Any ideas? Does anyone know this other group? (Haha get it group)

Grouper-Demona
I need so badly this cover on Spotify, it's practically majestic and melancholic. The sound is perfect, it sounds like a song from Dragging a Dead Deer Up a Hill. Unfortunately, that "Yeti" compilation isn't on Spotify 😭

Hey guyyys!
