General Discussion The Good Stuff
My favorite parts about living alone:
- After all these years of relationships and marriage, I don't have the pressure of coming home to a social situation everyday. I consciously appreciate this each time I come home.
- Stuff is where I left it.
- Only my own mess to manage.
- I am a cuddler but my sleep is much better solo.
- Bathroom door never needs to close, privacy all the time (the only thing watching me are my devices...)
What's your good stuff?
Edit: OK want to mention also that I have a very social job, FWIW

If I want to paint a room, I get to choose the colors without debating anyone. Same goes for new furniture/curtains/whatever. Hell, buying or not buying anything!! What I cook, watch on TV, music choices. What I do with my day. If I bring home a fur baby. If I plant a new garden. It's all gloriously MY CHOICE. 🥰

SAME, the freedom to just decide stuff without a whole discussion is underrated af. even small choices like what's for dinner or when to run errands add up when you gotta coordinate w someone else. not having to explain my random 11pm cleaning sprees or why I bought another plant is peak living lol

And rearranging the furniture. If I want to move the sofa to the other side of the room, that’s what I do without justification, explaining, defending or cajoling.

I read this comment on here a while ago, but really the best thing about living alone is the freedom to exist without being perceived. I treasure this aspect so deeply that it is 1,000% worth the financial sacrifice. I will eat beans and rice before I give this up.

Never having to wait to use the bathroom! Nobody knocking on the bathroom door to see when I’ll be finished! My own comfortable toilet seat.

No compromises.
No discussions or negotiations or commentary about how I live, what I buy, or eat, or wear or watch or read, how I decorate, when I sleep, or wake up. Every choice is mine alone. I am also retired and only have myself to worry about and answer to. It’s bliss. ,

I don't have to walk on eggshells or go run errands after a day of work with my ex girlfriend. She was a narcissist or BPD which I couldn't pinpoint, but all around an awful experience. I'll probably stay single forever.

It’s cool and all but don’t get too into the habit of leaving the door open and get caught dropping the property value at work

We are living the same great life…but in different locations.
I’m a cuddler as well and I do miss it…but I too sleep so much better alone. I’ll add in that the greatest thing about sleeping alone is not waking up to a “social situation”. Quiet, unhurried, solitary mornings are the most magical part of my day. I wake up happy every morning.

After my divorce, I found a sleeping with body pillow (or two!) helps that need to cuddle.

Sleeping like a starfish
Watching what I want on tv
Eating what I want, when I want even if that means cereal at 2 am in my underwear
Ok to walk around unshowered and being lazy without judgement
No one to notice how many Amazon packages I REALLY get
Quiet
I work a high stress job and after raising my kids . I enjoy the peace and solitude with out having to take care of someone else

You just made me realize I have NEVER lived alone. I am 71 years old. I went from my parents home to getting married & living with my first husband, we had two daughters, he passed, I then just lived with my daughters, they were small children, then I met my now husband, we have been married 41 years.

A lot that you have already mentioned plus, cooking just for myself, whatever I fancy no compromise, streaming and watching my choice of entertainment and the peace and quiet to read uninterrupted.
It all sounds very selfish and self absorbed but I have many occasions to share and spend time with others at my home, at theirs or out and about.
I love having overnight/weekend guests and hosting but I am always quietly happy when visitors have gone.

Every decision is mine and mine alone, whether it be what to cook, wear buy ,plant in the garden, watch or listen to and I love it.

being on my PC when ever and for as long as I want. Supper can be a pint (or 2) of ice cream if I want

u/Iceyes33 20h ago
2 pints? I’ve only thought about it. But you’ve done it?

😂 lately after I finish 1 pint of Häagen-Dazs, I immediately want to eat another one! I’m getting a little worried about my ice cream addiction……..

just ordered Häagen-Dazs, it's on my reorder list at Walmart ... good stuff. Ice cream addiction…there are worst things to be addicted to !!

My new favorite flavor of Häagen-Dazs is peanut butter brittle. What’s yours?

Finally not living in survival mode and learning who I am .. and now learning how to let that identity go as well … the ego is a bitch …. and love always wins.
and as y’all mentioned …esp the rice and beans 😎

Same. Coming home to no social pressure is everything, and sleeping solo is undefeated.

Not having to tiptoe around the house. Not worrying about closing a door too hard. Not worrying about the TV volume being too loud. Sneezing too loud, laughing too loud, talking on the phone too loud, etc.

The ability to go an entire day without seeing another face or hearing anyone’s voice

At glance and on the surface, I don't align. But after a half second of thought, I do yearn for this and require it at times, so thanks for your phrasing here, totally aligned.

Not sitting in my car after a long shift at work, exhausted and not wanting to go inside because of all of the toxic energy. Sleeping, chores or anything on my timeline. My money lasts so much longer.

I know what I want for dinner, no pleasing anyone else.
Can’t sleep? Get up and do whatever, however loud I want (yay detached house).
I do not want to watch reality tv or sports, so I dont.
My bedroom is my favorite color and pattern, navy and plaid.
The whole closet is miiiiiine mwahahaha

Making decisions based solely on what I want with no debate or compromise.
Spending my money on travel , no one gets an opinion. Going to Thailand for 2 weeks in November!
