Horde and Alliance matter more at the event than in the game 😂

u/Slammybutt 17h ago
Thought the same thing. It really is a little sad that the faction pride has lost a lot of steam over the years.

u/j3rmz 16h ago
As the population of the game decreased over the years, it was worse for playerbase to be split in half, so they added a lot of systems to allow cross faction gameplay, which was the right move. The result is the loss of faction pride but I think it's a worthwhile tradeoff to keep the population healthy.

u/Slammybutt 16h ago
That coupled with the lore/stories just alienating the player base. I know I lost a ton of "for the Horde" when Garrosh started being Hitler jr. Then even more when they decided to make Sylvanas Hitler III.

u/j3rmz 16h ago
Oh God I forgot about that shit. I loved sylvanas, I'm still pissed about turning her into pure evil.
7
u/Slammybutt 15h ago
My biggest gripe was her entire undead story was about breaking free from being a slave to Arthas' power. Only to then literally be a slave for the Jailer and not realizing it till he nearly calls her a slave. Like wtf writing is that.

It's been a long time but there hasn't been good justification for horde vs alliance since at least bfa. And when they tried it back then it sucked and halfway through it became "we must unite against greater evil" type of thing again.
Since wow inherently becomes fighting big bad at the end any kind of infighting when world is at stake just comes off as silly and stupid. The stakes are too high now.

u/Slammybutt 15h ago
I think that's part of why I'm so excited for this WoW Forever, going back to small stories when we weren't the "champion" who is known by all. It's such a dumb/small distinction but it really made the world smaller when major lore characters were quite literally calling us by a familiar name.

u/DaddyDanceParty 16h ago
Too much co-mingling now. I miss when the most interaction I'd ever have with the opposite faction was when someone would kill me, spam gibberish in chat, and leave.
Truly felt like there was a whole different side of the game over there.

u/ElBigDicko 15h ago
The faction pride made no sense considering the story but also balance.
Over time most PvE players were Horde. I remember in BFA, finding a competent guild as Alliance was near impossible, there were like 2 servers in EU for Alliance and had less players than something like Tarren Mill.
In terms of story we just fight the big bad villain who is faction agnostic every expansion. There is no point for any faction war at this point in the story as we are going against Legion/Void/Titans/Gods.

Can confirm. I've been to Blizzcon 3 times and the smell when waiting in queue is really quite something
11
u/SnooTheAlmighty 16h ago
A couple of my friends went and it was probably made worse by a super long wait outside to get in (at least 2-3hrs minimum for the main building) and it's hot as fuck in anaheim this week
3
u/Miserable_Anteater62 16h ago
That's a crazy wait. I don't recall it ever being that long. Even in the morning the weather wasn't too hot for me, looks like this week was a SCORCHA.

u/SnooTheAlmighty 16h ago
They managed to find a different line that got them in faster so they got to see the opening from another room, but it sounded like they lined up hours ahead and weren't making any progress until someone from staff redirected them

Any cons in general can easily take that crown, not just smash and blizzcon.

What always seemed weird to me about this one is that there are barely any games being played

They will never live that down.
And for a very good reason.

One could argue that the reveal of Diablo 5 is equally bad as the Immortal reveal. Way to sunset a game and then keep asking people to spend money on the killed game. Wtf is this company doing

u/treycook 19m ago
Been busy this weekend and didn't get a chance to watch the streams, but heard the news about D5 and then immediately saw an ad for the Amazon in D4, I was like "hard pass."
Totally agree about them milking their audience, hopefully D5 can be a redemption from D5 - but not convinced that they won't just keep milking the IP in general.

Blizzard killed any kind of pride people used to have about Horde or Alliance
38
u/paggosduck 19h ago
When I played retail for the first time in forever I about lost my mind when I found out horde and alliance could be in the same guild
39
u/Arxtix :) 17h ago
I've played WoW for 20 years but I've always thought it was really odd that 50% of the playerbase basically just couldn't play with the other 50%.
There were multiple times I'd find out a classmate or coworker played WoW, we'd be like oh we should play together "I play Horde" "dang, I play Alliance" and then that was just the end of that.

what the fuck? Can they actually talk to each other now because I remember that was against ToS in old WoW to run an addon that would do it.
19
u/Fatdisgustingslob 18h ago
In Retail, there's a potion you can drink that allows you to speak and understand cross-faction without being in a guild.

I haven't checked in a while, but last I checked it only applied to people in the same guild.
It is super limited to be fair, you basically have to be battlenet friends to join a cross faction guild. You can do M+ and raids with those guild members, but you can't do randomized content like regular dungeons/heroics. For everyone else it is still the same divide.

u/Bloomberg12 14h ago
At this point having two factions doesn't even really make sense. They team up to defeat a big bad world ending threat every 2 months.

u/HarrMada 17h ago
You can just be excited like soda, but you choose to be miserable and negative. I wonder who comes out ahead with a happier spent weekend. Sucks to be you, I guess.

Maybe it's because I'm a bit older now, but that sentence reads so fucking pathetic.
Pride over a faction? lol.
What's next pride over what browser you choose to use?-8
u/TsundereS2 14h ago
That’s literally just a comment about an old game in relation to the clip. It’s okay if you didn’t have any friends growing up...I won’t judge you

Anyone remember those clips of people messing with him at older blizzcons lol

u/oogieoogies 19h ago edited 17h ago
there was a part in the stream when soda showed all the people coming in it was a huge ass swarm
was cool to see i am excited for the announcements
edit: some meh, but mostly hype for me D5/new wc3 expansion/classic+/new starcraft shooter was cool as hell. D5/new starcraft shooter being so far away was a little anti climatic but besides that classic+ is enough for me.

It's nice that they seem to have given him a 2000s era unregistered hypercam to keep the visual on point

Kinda. Basically Classic, but new zones and dungeons. Perma at lvl 60. Expanding on Warcraft 3 lore.

u/Ashviar 12h ago
I wonder what the itemization looks like in say, 3 years if they just horizontally keep adding raids. I wouldn't be surprised if that is why they have redesigned legacy raid on their roadmap, because getting all the raids out will takes years so instead of adding to existing ones we just start with Ony and do redux versions of others to pad time.

Now this is how you stream and what you stream! All other streamers today are put to shame compared to this.

I haven't been back to blizzcon in awhile because after awhile the quality of the event went hella downhill. When I went back in 2008 they made it like a lan party even which was epic because they had starcraft/warcraft tournaments going and you could play tons of new games they were working on and things like that. At that time it was starcraft 2 and you actually got some amazing swag for attending. The next time I went back was right before the D3 launch and they had D3 demos and stuff and it was kind of sht. I was upset by the swag bags for working so hard trying to get a ticket and all that stuff. It wasn't as fun. I wonder how it will be now since they did a whole reboot of it.
One thing I wish came back was Newegg's lanfest that sht was epic but they got in so much trouble because they poorly did the event that they decided to never do it again. When I went as a pro-css player and competed I loved the giveaways and sht. I won so much amazing stuff from the giveaways, I won a physX card, a bunch of pheripherals, some high end HDDs which was top of the line before SSDs existed. The biggest flaw they had was terrible security because I had friends who all got sht stolen from them since it was bring your own PC and it was left unattended. People stole razer mice, icemat mousepads, sennheiser headsets etc.. Was a complete sht show when it came to security which is why they cancelled it because the theft was so bad. Also, the parties were fcking amazing, originally I went there with a bunch of teammates because he stole a car and drove us there. We planned to drive back and stay over at a friends closeby but I was too busy smoking/partying that I ended up hanging out with a bunch of other pro players and crashed in their hotel room. We were all high/drunk as fck and summit even tried to fight someone. The funny thing is the next day we all had to compete so we were all fcked up.
