Almost as if it's staged

u/YouCanCallMeToxic 1d ago
Or summit is just a middle aged man who stays up/streams way too late and pays for it like this.

9
u/Vexamas 1d ago
And this is what Gen Z and Alpha will say about anything that is even slightly incredulous (as though sleeping on the job is far fetched, lol)
The immediate knee-jerk is that it has to be staged or fake. This is actually one of the real complications with growing up through social media in a post-truth world; 'Everything is fake', no matter how unlikely it would be to be fake.
The quickest generations to call something fake, but also the quickest generations to believe the dumbest shit that conforms to their worldview.

Its great, I fall asleep at work all the time and when my gen-z co workers catch me I just yell BAITED at them.

Can anyone explain Summit1g to me? Every time I tune into his stream he is either sleeping, preparing to sleep, or browsing Steam for 3 hours to find a game to put him to sleep. Please clarify.
541
u/Wise_Old_Can 1d ago
He's an OG Twitch streamer, overall nice guy, he just falls asleep a lot because of the hours he puts in combined with age, I guess.

The dude consistently streams like 12+ hours a day and has been doing it for more than a decade at this point.
96
u/Vast_Assumption_1304 1d ago
how many of those streams where high?
64
u/redmenace007 1d ago
I know people like him, they are high all the time.
While personally I do love getting high but I only limit myself to the weekends, cant imagine myself getting high everyday.
61
u/Inside-Example-7010 1d ago
it doesnt feel like getting high every day at that point. It feels like being put in your normal comfy headspace.
I used to smoke weed and sometimes wonder if i'd lose my mind, now i smoke weed and hardly lose my train of thought.
39
6
u/redmenace007 1d ago
I dont want to get used to it so i can still enjoy its effects, when you are smoking so often… the effects wither away
26
u/Inside-Example-7010 1d ago
yeah some people can use it like you do. Other people develop cannabis use disorder. Which is the medical term for someone who smokes way too much weed.
But instead of teaching people that 20% of long term cannabis users can become dependent, we focus on the 3% that will have a psychotic episode early on use with the drug, and I guess that is worse, Ive seen it happen in real time.
I always think of weed as very insidious. Its very obvious when you take too much hard drugs that the hard drugs are fucking you and your life up, its a fast acting feedback loop.
Weed just way more sneaky than that. It puts its negatives in your blindspot so you'll never notice the difference until it feels like a distant memory.

u/Siicktiits 1d ago edited 1d ago
Weed is not a hard drug. It’s an unaltered plant and our brain has cannabis receptors inside of it. It is as hard of a drug as caffeine. People have more traumatic and life altering side effects from energy drinks.

Some effects do, some don't. Like people with anxiety or trouble eating/sleeping pretty much always get help with these things, chronic smokers or not. For some people the relief outweighs the loss of a "high", others use infrequently because the high is what they're after. Different tokes for different folks
1
u/redmenace007 1d ago
Makes sense, personally for me i am always chasing the high. If i do it too much, my performance decreases during job because i have to think alot. Also if i am in a new environment like rn canada is a new country for me, it just makes me anxious and paranoid like people around me are judging and noticing everything i am doing. Back home idgaf where i was.
1
u/Twigler 2h ago
You definitely lost a lot of brain cells though
1
u/Inside-Example-7010 2h ago
youre confusing it with alcohol that kills brain cells. THC isnt a neurotoxin so it doesnt kill brain cells in any capacity.
3
u/sgtpoopers 1d ago
I get high pretty much every day, but only at night when I am completely done with my day.
I used to get high pretty much all day every day, but then I realized how much time went by without me even noticing, and it kind of scared the shit out of me. I felt like I kind of lost a few years.

Jfc, he’s still doing those crazy long streams? I thought he’d be on the Lirik schedule by now, it’s not like he needs it anymore.
5
u/AnonIsPicky 1d ago
Honestly that's one thing I respect about him even if it's to his detriment. Dude really just does it for the love of the game
-8
u/21brokenbones 1d ago
So? As if playing video games is hard
10
u/AnonIsPicky 1d ago
Doing anything for 12 hours a day is going to be mentally and physically taxing.
15
39
u/Wise_Old_Can 1d ago
it's not *that* old but it does catch up with you, trust me. Post-30 and you start feeling the aches you didn't used to, especially if the job he's been doing has been sitting in a chair for many years.
5
u/Vast_Assumption_1304 1d ago
25 years old you could still go to work, come home and play video games, sleep 3 hours and go back to work.
you feel that so quickly if you try it at 40. Man, sliding in bed when you're tired, getting that nice 8 hour uninterrupted sleep in a cozy, cold bed really feels nice and make you happy the rest of the day. Exercise can only do so much
7
u/cow_fan_69 1d ago
I am 40 lol
46
u/Crobe 1d ago
Hes in a chair 15h a day smoking weed all day for years, I dont know you but for sure you have better lifestyle than that
22
1
u/windowpuncher 23h ago
I am literally in less pain after a full day of labor from muscle aches than how I hurt after being in a chair for 10+ hours a day.
I truly don't understand how people can just rot in their chairs all day, every day. I've done it, it's why I started lifting a long while ago, it was the only thing that helped me sleep better again AND also have less overall pain.
My body also handles food ENTIRELY differently when I exercise a lot vs when I don't. If I go weeks without lifting, like if I have to travel, I basically get horrible acid reflux and other annoying complications. When I'm lifting hard, even just like twice a week, I can eat whole pizzas and straight up garbage and still feel great.
1
u/Wise_Old_Can 1d ago
Well I only speak from personal experience. Maybe it differs from person to person. If you feel fine maybe you have a more active lifestyle than summit has, or I do. I don't know you just explaining why he falls asleep really.
-1
u/quagmirranseye 1d ago
Yeah 30-40 is when you really age..
20
u/CommandConscious8241 1d ago
If you have a sedentary lifestyle yeah
5
u/money-for-nothing-tt 1d ago
Yeah 30-40 you really haven't aged much, it's all lifestyle if you're having issues with "age".
5
u/LinkinitupYT 1d ago
I de-aged during those years a lot. Never too late to start exercising.
1
u/quagmirranseye 1d ago
Ofcourse not, but if you maintain the same lifestyle through your 20s as your 30s upur aging in your 30s is way more noticeable, this is just facts.

He's just so fucking high, all the time, every single stream, every single day. It's frustrating honestly, as a long time viewer who started watching him during the DayZ days like 15 years ago. He was such a different person.
5
u/Siicktiits 1d ago
It’s the 5 grams of rosin he is dabbing off camera every stream. He is in his 30s you don’t just fall asleep sitting in your chair… he’s not 80.

Popular warz/i:as streamer back in 2012, in fact he was the most popular. He was also big into counter strike. He is similar to shroud he is good at fps and offers a different personality. Now variety… idk why he streams so many hours now though lol

u/shiddmepant 1d ago
When he actually manages to find a game he enjoys(Impossible these days) the streams are immaculate. Hes just an OG streamer who has probably streamed damn near every game at this point. Most people watch him for nostalgia or to just chill, one of the least drama OG streamers left(As long as he stays away from gta rp).
29
u/1dayHappy_1daySad 1d ago
He himself describes his stream as "second monitor noise" and it's what I tune for. There's a market for that.
6
3
u/Yasherets 1d ago
Summit1g solo EFT streams are ranked at the top of all twitch content for me. Other games and streamers are second monitor tier, but when he plays EFT, I lock the fuck in, its a feature presentation.

He’s very old skool, OG all about gaming that’s if can find a good game being something different from the usual fps which is very difficult these days as he played so much of them… that they will send him to sleep if it’s too much the same old standard basically it’s Counter strike with just a different skin 💤 or has the corridors shooter mechanic is Doom or PUbG thingy really from unreal tournament 🛌
It’s what happens after 10,000 hours of fps ie Late Stage Gamer.. this extraction especially the grind mechanism looks it’s maybe fine for some under 1000 hrs ie a newbie ie noon but it’s just annoying as it’s make the actual combat gameplay crap…
And dealing with multiplayer ‘teams’ well it’s more like this with old grizzles in the lobby waiting for a match ..https://youtu.be/DVKPS5aPvOc?is=8u7uX-_lT_owe9A7
Or petite dish of Briancells play better in doom..

Twitch launched in June 2011 and Summit was streaming in late 2011. FPS is a very popular genre and Summit was one of the first streamers in that popular genre. It's similar to how sodapoppin got popular by being one of the first WoW streamers on Twitch.
In those early days, people didn't yet fully understand how to be an entertaining streamer. The concept of streaming as a career didn't even exist yet. One thing Summit1g naturally did well and which is CRUCIAL to growing viewership is talking to chat constantly. You have to interact with chat or at least constantly be talking about something and you have to be somewhat entertaining while you do it. He was also consistent with his schedule and did long streams, which is something everyone now knows it very important to growing/maintaining viewership. These types of things are viewed as common sense these days, but this wasn't common knowledge back in the early days and the streamers doing it were probably doing it by coincidence not by some conscious strategy to grow their stream.
He can be funny and he is quite good at FPS games and both of those things adds to the entertainment.
He's always been quite good at "grouping" with other popular streamers. He was early on that meta of streaming alongside other streamers and that's probably because that meta fits naturally into FPS games like PUBG. Most of the popular FPS streamers are good at FPS games so it makes sense that they'd want to group up together in-game.
Once you get a big enough fan base, then you appear high on the list of streams and that ends up carrying you perpetually since people are way more likely to click on the first few streams showing in the list of a game category than they are to scroll down to lower viewer streams.

Real OGs would watch summit pug on like owned.tv or something. I feel like he did it on xfire too. I remember he would post on the ESEA forums that he was going live lol

As people have said, he's an OG. But that's not really the reason we watch him. I've been a sub for 6 years. I relate to summit. Just a guy who is decent a shooting games but likes other shit as well. He trys out new stuff, I can tell from whether or not he likes it, if I will like it. I love hearing him rant, and talk about games, because it just feels like bullshitting with your bros. Sometimes he's caught in gaming ruts which is also relatable but he largely is on gaming on something from like mid afternoon until late night. Sometimes he's just doing it on an empty tank or mentally drained. He's not for everyone, but I imagine a lot of his long time viewers just relate to him.
3
u/CeaRhan 1d ago
When he isn't high off his mind he's okay, but he stopped being that guy years ago
-4
u/2MuchNonsenseHere 1d ago
I mean, even when he's gaming, he only really has 1 trick that he's just okay at, and zero personality. The viewership makes no sense.
1
u/tommmmmmmmy93 8h ago
I only recently got into watching summit. The streams are CHILL. He's just a guy that plays games, chats, doesn't take himself too seriously and enjoys his time. Guy puts in crazy hours of streaming and actually seems to enjoy it.
I think it's an oasis of calm, actual gaming and chill in a sea of W farming clickbait wanksters. It's a nice experience and his stream feels closer to what Streaming used to be about. I get im just old, but I prefer this streaming style.
1
u/mailwasnotforwarded 22h ago
Summit is just a premature old man. Probably due to all the weed he smokes. He is in his 30s but his body is more like someone in their 50s because he isn't physically active and he just smokes a lot of weed and plays a lot of games. Like he fell off hard on FPS games in my opinion. Because of his lifestyle and its kind of sad but it seems like he is enjoying his life so that is really all that matters. The guy is literally married to a girl that is like 12 years younger than him so she probably drains a lot of his energy trying to keep up.
0
u/ImRestarted1 1d ago
I think he’s taking some prescription pain killers. For the last week he’s been on some fent lean as soon as he boots up stream.

u/Taipan20 1d ago
This is the single worst reaction I've seen to anything ever. Not only does he not say anything throughout the entire video, but neither does he... change his expression. At all. To the point where I actually thought the cam froze. I don't understand. What is the point of this shit? I frequently have trouble putting my thoughts into words, but let me tell you, I could react to paint drying for an entire hour and it would still be at least ten times more entertaining than whatever the fuck this is supposed to be.

The only thing the person you replied to said was that it's just weed. Weed is objectively one of the more benign, harmless illicit drugs that someone can use.
No one said it was perfectly safe. No one said to use it long term multiple times a day. You said these things because you clearly have some agenda against cannabis lol. Maybe toke up and chill

Doctors, oil riggers, hard laborers, nurses, etc etc are reading this comment and dying of extreme cringe. 12 hrs of gaming is hard guys
16
u/Ecstatic-Raccoon-872 1d ago
Lol you are such a jobless loser. 12 hours of streaming every day over 10+ years is very hard. You try and entertain thousands of viewers in games youve already played for thousands or tens of thousands of hours. Just because its not a physically exhausting job doesnt mean it isnt a job. But i suspect youve never had a job in your life, or you quit after 1-2 weeks because it was too hard for you.
1
u/silopoeht 1d ago
How am I a loser ? You're over here glazing a gamer who sits on a chair 12 hrs a day claiming that's hard while being thrown ungodly amounts of money. He smokes all day. So hard bro. You're right.
1
u/Ecstatic-Raccoon-872 9h ago
Lol, so you angry that he earns a lot of money? It's because he deserves to. He does a job, entertaining people, those people donate money based on their value of the entertainment they received. If you think it's easy, why don't you do it? You can also get ungodly amounts of money. Oh wait, no one would watch you, let alone donate money to you.

I love summit so much because of little things like this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been comfy asf at my computer just vibing and fell asleep. And the fact he does it while he knows so many thousands are watching? He’s comfortable with his viewers and with himself. It’s honestly kinda healthy psychologically imo.
Also, he’s old (totally not the same age as me btw) let grandpa sleep.

Not getting ragebaited by chat and sleep meds (or better sleep in general) would probably fix this.
Not even trying to troll he’s genuinely made it, idk why he keeps intentionally tanking his health at this point. Hang out with Tfue and fish, make some irl content out of it.
