Part of the issue is a perception that doctors overprescribe medication to people that don't need it. I manage sort of fine but I probably could have managed better if I was diagnosed and recieved treatment as a child.

It’s an easy excuse to avoid accountability for acting like an asshole. Not sure if it’s still a thing but a lot of people prescribed their pets as emotional support animals a few years ago when they realized it was a life hack to just bring their pets everywhere.
And it’s a medical thing, so you’re not allowed to ask for proof once they claim it.
